Role Summary
As a Senior Automation Test Engineer, you will be a pivotal member of our Quality Engineering team. Based in our Bangalore office, you will be responsible for the end-to-end ownership of our test automation strategy. This hands-on leadership role involves architecting scalable test automation frameworks, driving test coverage across our full technology stack, and seamlessly integrating quality checks into our CI/CD pipeline. You will be a key influencer, mentoring team members and championing a culture of excellence and automation across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Framework & StrategyDefine and implement the overall test automation
- Design and build modular, maintainable, and scalable test automation frameworks from scratch to validate our complex cloud-based applications.
- Define and implement the overall test automation strategy in collaboration with development and product leadership.
- Maintain and expand automated test coverage across all layers, including frontend user interfaces, backend services and microservices, API contracts, and critical integration points.
- Develop robust automated test scripts utilizing industry-standard tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and Appium.
Testing Execution & CI/CD Integration
- Conduct comprehensive end-to-end testing, including functional, regression, performance, and load testing to ensure application reliability and scalability.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, and Azure DevOps to establish a robust continuous testing process.
- Collaborate closely with DevOps engineers to guarantee test reliability and performance in containerized staging/production environments.
- Employ API testing tools such as Postman and REST Assured to validate service functionality and data integrity.
Leadership, Mentoring & Quality Advocacy
- Mentor junior QA and automation engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and promoting best practices in software testing.
- Lead initiatives to continuously improve testing processes, evaluate new test tools, and evolve the team’s automation strategies.
- Promote a culture of quality and automation by advocating for shift-left testing principles and TDD/BDD methodologies.
- Analyze test failures, identify root causes, and work collaboratively with cross-functional development teams to resolve issues swiftly.
Reporting & Documentation
- Create detailed test reports and insightful dashboards to provide stakeholders with transparent metrics on product quality and release readiness.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all automation frameworks, tools, and standard operating procedures to ensure team scalability and knowledge preservation.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5–8+ years of hands-on experience in software quality assurance, with at least 3 years dedicated to building and implementing test automation frameworks.
- Strong programming/scripting skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#.
- Demonstrable expertise with modern automation tools/frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Proven experience with API testing tools like Postman or REST.
- A solid understanding of software testing methodologies, the SDLC, and the STLC.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub, GitLab) and continuous integration tools (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions).
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical experience in performance/load testing using tools like JMeter, Locust, or Gatling.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Direct experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and a deep understanding of testing strategies for cloud-based applications.
- Familiarity with BDD/TDD frameworks such as Cucumber, Behave, or SpecFlow.
- An understanding of security testing frameworks and compliance requirements in a cloud context.
- Exposure to Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools is a plus.
- ISTQB or similar QA/testing certifications are highly desirable.
