I. Position Overview

Minneapolis Cider Co. is building a quality assurance program and needs your knowledge and skills. The craft beverage industry is a dynamic one and this position has opportunity to develop a program that exceeds the standards required to create the best tasting beverages available.

The Quality Lead Technician is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the Quality Assurance (QA) process to ensure consistent production and quality of Minneapolis Cider Co. beverages. This role involves collaboration with all production areas and requires analytical, organizational, and technical expertise. The Quality Lead Technician reports to the Production Manager.

II. Key Responsibilities

A. Quality Assurance Management

Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive QA procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Design and implement quality control checkpoints throughout the production process, including raw material inspection, in-process testing, and finished product analysis.
Establish and manage data recording and tracking systems for QA/QC records, utilizing Google Drive and other relevant platforms.
Conduct regular data analysis and generate reports to identify trends, deviations, and areas for process improvement.
Ensure compliance with quality standards by co-packing partners.
Design and execute QA checks for new product development and process updates.

B. Batch and Lab Management

Monitor batch development and processes to alleviate the potential for quality related issues to arise.
Develop and implement protocols for in- and out-of-specification results, including troubleshooting and corrective actions.
Design daily testing protocols for production staff and provide managerial oversight.
Establish and manage sensory testing frameworks and panels.
Develop testing protocols for packaged and aging products, including THC stability testing.
Coordinate off-site testing as required.

C. Documentation and Data Management

Maintain organized and up-to-date QC records, lab equipment manuals, recipes, and instrument maintenance records on Google Drive.
Ensure data is accessible and searchable for all production team members.
Develop and maintain accurate inventory of lab supplies.

D. Team Collaboration and Training

Collaborate with production teams on sanitation, ingredient quality, and preventive measures.
Educate employees on quality initiatives, processes, and sensory panel procedures.
Facilitate effective communication of QA/QC findings and recommendations to the team.
Promote a positive and collaborative team environment.

III. Essential Duties

Analyze and manage data from the production process, focusing on critical control points.
Inform the team of critical control point deviations and implement corrective actions.
Develop systems to prevent packaging out-of-specification products.
Curate, train, and develop the tasting panel to understand on and off-flavors.
Utilize statistical analysis and experimental design to inform production decisions and process adjustments.
Contribute to the growth and development of the laboratory.

IV. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field or equivalent experience.
Laboratory or science-related experience a must.
Perform quality control procedures including titrations, bacterial counts and observations, and cell culture.
Understanding of brewing and fermentation theory and practice.
Proficiency in spreadsheet creation, data analysis, and microcomputer systems.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
Ability to lift 20 lbs.
Ability to work 8-hour shifts, with occasional weekend availability.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 – $62,000.00 per year
