POSITION
PURPOSE
Responsible for ensuring the accurate analysis of incoming raw materials, bulk liquids, and finished products using SOPs, WIs, NPTM, GLPs, and GMPs. Ensures tested raw materials, bulk liquids, and finished products meet required specifications prior to release. Investigates out-of-specification results to determine final disposition. Maintains accurate, complete, and traceable documentation related to analysis and disposition. Ensures the effective functioning of the Analytical Laboratory, designates trained personnel for tasks, and reviews documentation for compliance.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES Testing Requirements:
Perform diversified chemical testing using current USP, SOPs, WIs, and NPTM on raw materials, bulk liquids, and finished products, including pH, viscosity, refractive index, specific gravity, etc.
Use instruments (GC, HPLC, IR, UV, Auto-titrator) to determine component percentages as per specifications.
Identify chemicals or formulations per USP/NF and other test requirements.
Coordinate release of liquid batches, including reassay/expiration designations.
Assist in sampling, testing, and releasing raw materials as needed.
Determine toxicity and pH of waste tanks at designated intervals.
Reporting & Analysis:
Accurately record results in laboratory logs or designated forms.
Review laboratory data related to drug and OTC product manufacturing.
Investigate Out of Specification (OOS) results.
Lab Maintenance:
Validate and calibrate all analytical instruments.
Ensure analytical methods comply with international standards.
Purchase supplies, prepare solutions, clean the lab, and perform calibration and recording of instruments.
Additional Requirements:
Determine product disposition and complete necessary documentation.
Lead, direct, and train junior chemists in instruments, methodologies, SOPs, WIs, GLPs, GMPs.
Report to QC Lab Manager regularly and assign workflow accordingly.
Special Projects:
Handle projects such as method transfer and validation.
Performance Measurements:
Test materials efficiently, ensure proper release, maintain lab cleanliness, and ensure proper training of staff.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related science.
Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of analytical techniques, computer literacy, ability to follow test methodologies, work under pressure, and supervise staff.
Experience
Required:
5-7 years in a laboratory environment, with at least 3 years in a regulated setting.
Working Conditions
No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
Salary Range
$80,000 – $90,000 annually plus bonus.
