POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop, plan, implement and manage the facility quality control and food safety systems designed to ensure all products produced by the company meet the quality assurance requirements and food safety standards. Supervise the FSQA team personnel and oversee the quality and food safety aspects of production, including product specification testing, food safety system and quality programs within the processing plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

1. Implement government regulations regarding quality control and food safety in all areas of the plant.
2. Apply knowledge and previous experience to recommend new quality policies and procedures as necessary to ensure high quality products, processes, and services.
3. Monitor, analyze, and assess data from and activities of the operations team to ensure that product is being produced according to the specification.
4. Oversee short weight incoming process and report to each customer within the established timeline.
5. Maintain effective communication channels between government and plant officials. USDA FSIS and AMS.
6. Monitor all government regulations, programs, and policies regarding food safety both inside and out of the plant (FSIS, USDA, AMS, etc.).
7. Run quality control department and delegate tasks within the area to FSQA supervisor, FSQA technicians and line inspectors.
8. Track microbiological trends, sanitation program performance, and product shelf life within the plant and communicate results upper management.
9. Coordinate microbiological testing, shelf-life studies, nutritional testing and any other customer testing requirements with certified external and accredited laboratories.
10. Create and write quality control programs to be implemented at the plant
11. Adhere to specific customer requests and specifications in reference to the quality of products.
12. Develop and organize different means of evaluating product quality and then develop better ways to produce products.
13. Oversee and update all raw material claims and raw material (product/ingredient/ packaging) supplier program and documentation.
14. Assist with any new supplier approvals and documentation.
15. Evaluate pest control contractors’ performance to ensure they are completing their jobs in a safe, effective, and professional manner.
16. Evaluate sanitation performance to ensure they are completing their jobs in a safe, effective, and professional manner.
17. Constantly review and update product quality control programs.
18. Organize and train all personnel within the quality assurance area.
19. Manage special projects regarding quality and food safety for the plant.
20. Coordinate efforts implementing new products/processes with respective parties (i.e, production, management, maintenance).
21. Develop, maintain, and implement any programs relating to customers or 3rd party requirements to include leading customer audits and maintenance of BRC certification
22. Monitor, track, and evaluate product inspections relative to customer requirements or plant performance.
23. Work closely with operations to ensure regulatory compliance, customer specifications, and performance metrics are maintained.
24. Apply knowledge, background, and expertise in the (BRC) standards
25. . Lead cross-functional teams across the facility to prepare and maintain the facility BRC compliant.
26. Responsible for maintaining the facility “audit ready” at any given time, in more specific terms: customer audits, BRC, USDA/FSIS audits, Organic, Food Defense, Halal and PVP audits.
27. Complete and maintain documentation for certifications including product claims- Organic, PVP, halal, GAP, etc.
28. Conduct walkthroughs, inspections, and meetings in a cool environment.
29. Perform internal audits.
30. Develop, create and coordinate with customers and internal plant management to generate and update product specifications.
31. Oversee the labeling submission process to obtain USDA label approvals, including Nutritional labeling, Ingredient labeling, and Allergens.
32. Create, review and approve artwork for labeling, primary and secondary packaging, ensuring regulatory compliance with labeling requirement and guidelines.
33. Knowledge of export requirements to Mexico, Canada, etc., ensuring compliance of the facility products with the relevant country.
34. Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality.
35. Maintain an active role on internal Continuous Improvement teams.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

B.S. degree in Food Science or similar fields
Minimum 5 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination education/training
HACCP certified
Internal Auditing training for Food Manufacturing NSF or equivalent
Supervisory/management experience
Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
Experience with developing/documenting procedures.
Use of Quality Engineering methods in inspection.
Computer proficiency., excel, word, etc
