Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in catching problems before they reach the customer. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident inspecting garments independently. They communicate professionally with vendors, work well with cross-functional teams, and understand that quality is everyone’s responsibility. Experience in knit apparel manufacturing is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Measure garments accurately against specification sheets and garment specs.
- Perform quality inspections on apparel throughout production and prior to shipment.
- Inspect garments for holes, stains, needle holes, skipped stitches, open seams, fabric damage, uneven dye, shading, paneling, contamination, measurement issues, trim defects, and overall workmanship.
- Identify, document, and communicate quality concerns clearly with internal teams and outside vendors.
- Visit local sewing contractors, dye houses, finishing facilities, and warehouses to perform in-line and final quality inspections.
- Complete inspection reports and communicate findings in a timely, professional manner.
- Work closely with Production, Development, Planning, Customer Service, and Warehouse teams to resolve quality issues.
- Help ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified before production continues.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and assist with maintaining company quality standards.
- Maintain organized inspection records, photos, and documentation.
- Assist with return inspections and customer quality investigations as needed.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of apparel quality, garment inspection, production, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience measuring knit garments using specification sheets.
- Strong understanding of garment construction and sewing operations.
- Ability to recognize common apparel defects including:
- Holes
- Stains
- Needle holes
- Fabric damage
- Uneven dye
- Shading
- Paneling
- Contamination
- Skewing/Twisting
- Open seams
- Skipped stitches
- Broken stitches
- Trim defects
- Measurement issues
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable making quality decisions independently while escalating concerns appropriately.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Experience using ERP systems is a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced apparel environment.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day.
- Lift up to 35 lbs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling garments.
- Ability to inspect garments for long periods while maintaining attention to detail.
- Valid California driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Approximately 25% local travel to vendor facilities throughout Greater Los Angeles
- Mileage reimbursed at $0.55 per mile for approved business travel.
As a note: a successful Apparel Quality Coordinator needs to be very comfortable using a measuring tape and measuring garments.
