What You Will Do
The responsibilities of the Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Laboratory Supervisor will include:
Ensuring proper procedures are in place and being followed for employee safety, food safety, and product quality
Ensuring the safety of all Freshpet products
Developing, managing, and executing plant microbiological, nutritional, and food safety/quality testing programs, assuring conformance to Freshpet standards
Performing microbiological and analytical testing on raw, in-process, and finished products as required
Conducting laboratory proficiency testing and staff evaluations
Providing analytical equipment troubleshooting and training team members to assist with routine maintenance
Actively participating in developing and monitoring Freshpet food safety programs for all products
Providing support to validate or verify required food safety tests/new methods as needed
Supporting the timely execution of the Internal Audit program and performing audits as needed
Managing day-to-day schedule and routine activities of laboratories to meet business needs
Managing plant laboratory supplies and ordering activity
Providing leadership to Microbiology Technician team
Supporting training of QA team members, and others as needed
Managing shelf-life program and sharing trends or observations in a timely manner
Assisting with investigations related to food safety, including supplier issues, processing and warehousing incidents, and consumer complaints
Monitoring and providing timely updates related to nonconformance events, ensuring documented corrective action effectiveness
Assuming additional related responsibilities as necessary
How You Will Make an Impact
Advanced knowledge of food safety and quality requirements for the food industry
Demonstrated leadership competency; able to oversee and direct the work of others
Understanding of microbiological testing techniques, including FDA BAM testing methodologies
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs, as well as lead others through change
Strong knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practices
Excellent document control and data management skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt to fluctuating workload, while maintaining attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications
Experience identifying food safety risk and conducting risk analysis, using HACCP and preventive controls principles
Demonstrates respect for confidentiality with respect to laboratory information
Team player, fosters open and honest communication
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Sound ethics
What You Will Bring
BS/BA required, degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related preferred.
3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience.
Must be HACCP/PCQI certified or receive certification within three months in position.
Able to work in production areas under hot, humid and/or refrigerated conditions
Able to work varied days/shifts to support business needs
Lift and perform physical labor during plant tests or product start-ups
Work extended hours to complete tasks/special projects
Limited travel, up to 10%
1+ years supervising direct reports preferred.
What We Offer
The range for this position is: $84,000.00 – $90,000.00
