Avum is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist to join our team. In this fully remote role, you will play a critical role in supporting the quality testing efforts for the Navy’s Appian-based Contract Writing System. As a senior member of the QA team, you will help shape testing strategies, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with multiple development teams to ensure best practices are followed throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

While prior experience with federal contract writing systems or regulations like the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is not required, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop expertise in these areas. The team will provide guidance and training to help you understand the federal procurement processes relevant to the system under development. Strong collaboration, analytical, and communication skills are essential for effectively working with engineering and analyst teams, as well as coordinating with government personnel.

What You Will Be Doing:
Contributing to test planning efforts and assisting in the development of comprehensive test strategies.

Providing mentorship and support to junior QA team members, encouraging skill development and knowledge sharing.

Collaborating with the QA team to develop, execute, and maintain detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts.

Participating in various testing activities, including Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Regression Testing, Functional Testing, System Level Developmental Testing (DT), Cybersecurity Testing, User Acceptance Testing, Interface/API Testing, Integration Testing, Smoke Testing, Unit Testing, Performance/Load Testing, and Compliance Testing.

Reviewing and analyzing business and technical requirements to identify and address potential quality gaps.

Assisting with risk and impact analysis, identifying potential issues, and working with the team to mitigate them.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on quality objectives and requirements.

Supporting automation efforts and contributing to continuous testing practices within CI/CD pipelines.

Proactively communicating testing status, impediments, and recommendations for improvements to project stakeholders and QA leadership.

Supporting pre-release signoff procedures, helping to ensure all quality benchmarks are met.

Contributing to documentation efforts related to organizational and project testing activities, such as test plans, test results, and traceability matrices.

Participating in team meetings, representing QA considerations, and contributing to process discussions.

Required Qualifications:
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Clearance.

5+ years of experience in quality assurance, testing, or test and evaluation (T&E) roles.

Experience contributing to or coordinating complex testing initiatives across multiple teams.

Knowledge of test planning, test case management, and defect analysis across various tech stacks (e.g., Java, Oracle, Appian, AWS, MarkLogic).

Experience identifying and executing complex functional and regression test cases to verify business and technical requirements.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and recommend effective solutions.

Proficiency in manual testing techniques, defect management, and automation frameworks.

Ability to critically review project documentation, identify QA needs, and collaborate on resolutions.

Experience supporting an Agile Testing Approach, including familiarity with Agile Testing Quadrants.

Experience working with project management tools like Jira.

Familiarity with agile methodologies, particularly SAFe and Scrum frameworks.

Effective written and oral communication skills, with a focus on team collaboration and solution-oriented discussions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience testing enterprise applications in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.

Experience with federal procurement processes, contract writing systems, and relevant regulations.

Experience writing automated tests within a Selenium/Cucumber-supported framework using Java.

Hands-on experience with performance testing tools, including JMeter.

Familiarity with continuous delivery (CI/CD) environments and modern DevOps practices.

Experience with statistical design of experiments.

Appian Developer Certification.

Interest in driving QA process improvements and advocating for quality-focused initiatives.

Location

This is a fully remote position, requiring availability during core Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours, Monday through Friday. The candidate will collaborate with external project team members and other Avum employees virtually, primarily using tools like Microsoft Teams. While the role is remote, occasional travel may be required for in-person meetings at government sites in Washington, D.C., or Avum’s office in Agoura Hills, California.

Salary

Starting salaries range from $115,000 to $135,000, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, salaried position with a comprehensive benefits package.
