Position Summary:

Full Time / In Office / Imperial, PA

A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring welded products and fabrication activities meet applicable codes, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. This role performs visual inspections, verifies welding procedures and welder qualifications, maintains inspection documentation, and supports continuous quality improvement throughout the manufacturing process. The CWI serves as a key resource for weld quality, compliance, and production excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform visual inspections of welded assemblies, components, and finished products.
  • Verify compliance with AWS, customer, project, and internal quality requirements.
  • Review and interpret welding drawings, specifications, procedures, and codes.
  • Verify welder qualifications and welding procedure compliance.
  • Conduct in-process and final weld inspections throughout fabrication.
  • Document inspection findings and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and resolution of welding non-conformances.
  • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to maintain weld quality standards.
  • Assist with audits, customer inspections, and quality program development.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed throughout inspection activities.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of AWS welding codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and quality documentation.
  • Proficient in reading/ navigating Bluebeam documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Associate’s degree or technical education in welding technology, manufacturing, engineering technology, or related field.
  • Experience in modular construction, electrical skids, industrial fabrication, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with quality management systems and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with NDE/NDT methods and reporting.
  • Experience developing or reviewing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
  • Additional AWS certifications or endorsements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout manufacturing and fabrication facilities.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections requiring close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing, warehouse, and construction environments with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.

Additional Requirements:

  • Pre-employment drug screen required
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day
  • Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected
