SUMMARY: The Certified Welding Inspector will work closely with our production, quality and project delivery teams to accurately ensure that the organization is delivering high-quality welds across differing materials such as carbon steel and aluminum supporting projects that demand exceptional craftsmanship and quality. The candidate must be willing and eager to work in an ISO-9001compliant small company, fast-paced environment where each employee wears multiple hats and fully embraces the get-it-done attitude. The position will report directly to the organization quality manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include, but not limited to:
· Perform in-process and final inspections of structural steel fabrication to ensure compliance with project specifications, AWS D1.1 and D1.2, AISC and MIL standards, and company quality and welding procedures.
· Verify material identification, heat numbers, and traceability.
· Review, re-write existing, create new, and maintain all welding procedures to ensure compliance with the latest requirements of AWS.
· Inspect fit-up, welding, cutting, drilling, and assembly operations.
· Review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, weld symbols, and customer specifications.
· Conduct dimensional inspections using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
· Coordinate, facilitate, and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as UT, MT, PT and RT when required.
· Verify bolt hole locations, member dimensions, camber, and overall assembly accuracy.
· Verify welding qualifications to internal weld procedures and maintain qualification records
· Maintain inspection reports, quality records, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and corrective action documentation.
· Work closely with production supervisors, welders, fitters, and project managers to resolve quality issues.
· Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Assist during customer inspections and third-party audits.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (required)
· Minimum 3–5 years of CWI experience in structural steel fabrication
· Ability to read, analyze and interpret safety and procedures furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
· Experience with FCAW and GMAW welding processes
· Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management System
· Deep knowledge of NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, RT, etc.) and interpretation of the results
· Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and weld specification
· Must pass an eye examination, to have corrected or uncorrected vision in each eye for long distance of better than 20/30 and for 16 inches distance permits reading of Jaeger J2.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Regularly required to stand for extended periods of time.
· Work within a production environment that is noisy and not conditioned
· Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
· Frequently required to use hands to operate welding equipment.
· Frequently must bend, reach, and stoop.
· Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Pay: $23.54 – $34.49 per hour
