Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Senior to Staff level Test Engineer to contribute to the continuous improvement of Production/Hardware/Embedded Systems Test Equipment for the Megafactory Production Engineering team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and optimizing test equipment and software for Tesla’s Megapack lines. You will also be responsible for supporting electrical, software, and controls debugging tasks, as well as the continuous improvement of test and automation equipment. What You’ll Do
Develop and enhance test equipment and software in both individual and team settings
Demonstrate proficiency in scripting in Python, Golang, or another high-level programming language (C, C++, C#, Java, etc.)
Interface with multiple SQL databases to efficiently manage and analyze test data
Collaborate with the production team to understand the production constraints related to testing
Work closely with design teams to define optimized test specifications that balance yield and quality
Assist in the mechanical and electrical design of the test equipment itself, with a focus on HV power electronics and battery systems
Support debug and validation efforts to ensure the sustained performance of the equipment
Take responsibility for fully documenting all aspects of the projects you work on, ensuring clear and comprehensive documentation

What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
7+ years of relevant industry experience in test equipment development and optimization
Proficiency in Python and/or Go, as well as version control (Git or SVN)
Possess a good understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, and RS232 at both the hardware and software layers, as well as common tools for analyzing serial trace data such as Vector CANape
Experience with designing, prototyping, and implementing custom test fixtures, jigs, connectors, and tooling is desirable
Familiarity with high volume production and equipment key performance indicators such as first-pass yield, cycle time, and availability
Experience with HV power electronics, battery, and/or thermal systems is highly desirable
Experience in designing electrical hardware and software, with a particular emphasis on operator and product safety
Possess a good understanding of production equipment design issues, including user-friendliness, serviceability, ruggedness, and noninvasive electrical test connections
Ability to work well under pressure, managing competing demands and tight deadlines effectively. Willingness to support 24/7 operations as needed

Expected Compensation

$104,400 – $183,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
