Position Overview:
The CMM Operator develops gauges and surface plate layout techniques, operates CMM equipment, inspects a variety of complex parts and tools, and provides inspection reports of findings as required.
Essential Job Functions:
Analyzes complex parts by comparing part with blueprints or sketches, and devises techniques necessary to measure specified dimensions.
Layout and surface plate inspection.
Develops programs for CMM machines to inspect complex dimensions and relationships. Verifies accuracy of program.
Analyzes defective parts to determine reasons for dimensional variations such as faulty machining, assembly procedures, setup, tools, or fixtures.
Maintains records of inspection results as required for internal paperwork or any verification/certification required by a customer.
May assist Quality Engineer in developing all aspects of the inspection plan for new and existing product.
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of 3 years of CMM inspection experience and demonstrate during an interview as needed.
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school, in a related field, and 3 years inspection experience; or six years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to read and correctly interpret complex engineering drawings, including a thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, customer specifications, and regulations.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Proficient in the use of micrometers, test indicators, height gage, and other manual layout instruments to complete first article inspections, or as a means to verify CMM results.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Understanding and working knowledge of Windows based PCs and related applications, especially MS Office.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Work overtime as needed to support demand.
May be required to do cross training (gage crib/calibrations/scanning/etc).
Communication skills a must: communicate with engineering/Quality/customers as required and good written communication skills as communications will be verbal and email.
Ability to train other inspectors as needed.
Additional Requirements:
Adhere to rules and regulations of a FAA Safety Sensitive Position.
Attendance critical – must not have exceeded 30 points in the past 6 months.
Ability to pass an assessment test for micrometers, calipers, height gages, drawing interpretation and shop math.
