Position Overview

  • We are seeking an experienced Final & In-Process Quality Inspector to support the manufacturing of air and space-based RF systems at an Aerospace & Defense facility in Severn, MD.
  • This position will work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to support prototype builds, New Product Integration (NPI), and production builds.
  • The inspector will perform detailed in-process and final inspections of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical products and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, workmanship standards, and established quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of electronic units, subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies, mechanical units, subassemblies, and related products.
  • Inspect products for workmanship, dimensional accuracy, assembly quality, and internal defects using established inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Inspect aerospace components and assemblies, including: Cable harnesses, Mechanical assemblies, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assemblies, electronic assemblies, Soldered assemblies, Electro-mechanical assemblies and Fabricated mechanical parts
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, diagrams, customer specifications, inspection instructions, checklists, manufacturing travelers, and work instructions.
  • Use various inspection and measurement equipment, including micrometers, dial indicators, scales, fixtures, microscopes, magnifiers, and electro/mechanical handheld inspection equipment.
  • Accept or reject products and assemblies based on established inspection criteria and applicable specifications.
  • Perform highly detailed in-process and final inspection activities while maintaining accurate inspection records.
  • Support prototype and new product/process introduction (NPI) builds.
  • Monitor and contribute to quality performance metrics and reporting.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Identify process and product trends and support efforts to improve product quality and manufacturing yields.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to resolve quality and inspection issues.
  • Follow established quality management procedures and applicable workmanship standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or approximately 5 years of relevant Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing Quality Assurance/Engineering or Aerospace/NASA quality inspection experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is not required for this position, A High School Diploma, preferably with a STEM/technical background, may be considered along with the required hands-on experience.
  • Certification or demonstrated qualification in applicable workmanship standards, such as: IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 with Space Addendum, J-STD-001 with Space Addendum, NASA-STD-8739.1
  • Hands-on experience performing detailed final and in-process inspection of electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Experience using applicable inspection and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Quality Inspection role supporting Aerospace and/or NASA programs.
  • Experience identifying process and product yield trends.
  • Understanding of AS9100 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Experience supporting prototype and NPI builds.
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing and Engineering Lab environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Experience working in controlled laboratory environments where lab coats or additional protective/cleanliness equipment may be required.
