THE ROLE

The Financial Analyst supports the Japan Finance team by delivering accurate, timely, and reliable financial outputs. The role contributes to financial closing, forecasting, analysis & reporting, and planning activities while ensuring the integrity and consistency of financial data across reporting cycles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Analyst supports the Japan Finance team by delivering accurate, timely, and reliable financial outputs.

The role contributes to financial closing, forecasting, analysis & reporting, and planning activities while ensuring the integrity and consistency of financial data across reporting cycles.

1. Financial Closing

  • Prepare journal entries, including accruals, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial data
  • Review open purchase orders and proactively follow up with PO owners to ensure timely goods receipt and proper cost recognition
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes in line with internal policies

2. Forecasting & Planning

  • Prepare financial data and analysis for Outlook, Forecast, and AOP (Annual Operating Plan) cycles
  • Consolidate inputs across functions, including alignment with Sales on topline assumptions, and ensure consistency across reporting views
  • Track key cost drivers and support variance analysis versus plan and prior forecasts
  • Support pricing updates by processing requested changes, ensuring accurate system reflection, and validating alignment with margin expectations and global guidelines

3. Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze actual versus forecast performance and provide clear explanations of variances
  • Monitor cost trends across major P&L lines and highlight risks or inconsistencies
  • Prepare and support monthly reporting packages, including MEC deliverables and management reports
  • Support preparation of MBR (Monthly Business Review) materials and presentation packs
  • Ensure consistency and quality of reporting across financial views (actual, forecast, AOP)
  • Assist in preparing financial bridges (e.g., Sales, Gross Margin, Operating Income) with clear explanations of key drivers

4. Internal Controls & SOX

  • Support and strengthen internal controls (e.g., SOX) in line with corporate requirements
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintain audit-ready evidence
  • Contribute to the reliability and compliance of financial reporting processes

5. Ad-hoc Analysis

  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis to support business decisions and management requests
  • Respond to requests from Finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in a timely manner

6. Process & Reporting Improvement

  • Support enhancement of financial processes, reporting templates, and tools
  • Improve efficiency and standardization of recurring reporting activities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance function

YOU ARE A COTY FIT

As a Financial Analyst, you thrive in a fast-paced and diverse environment.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 3–6 years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or FP&A roles
  • Experience in a multinational environment preferred

Technical Skills

  • Solid accounting knowledge (journal entries, accruals, closing processes)
  • Experience with SAP (ERP) and financial reporting systems (e.g., Hyperion/HFM is preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, modelling, pivot tables)
  • – Solid understanding of standard cost and cost of goods sold (COGS), with the ability to link cost movements to margin impact
  • Power BI or data visualization tools is a plus

Language

  • Native-level Japanese proficiency
  • Business-level English proficiency
