This position is within Cargill’s protein and salt business, where we deliver high-quality, wholesome food products to diverse customers, including food service operators, grocery stores, manufacturers, and exporters.

and Impact

The Food Safety Quality Chemist will ensure products meet or exceed customer requirements for quality and food safety. You will apply your understanding of plant processes to monitor quality assurance systems, including instrumentation calibration, maintenance, crosschecks, methods, procedures, raw materials, food safety, and training. You will provide technical advice and support to production operations to ensure product quality, minimize process variation, reduce waste, and improve customer satisfaction.

Accountabilities

Ensure products meet compliance specifications and perform final product approval checks.

Analyze data, identify trends, troubleshoot issues, implement corrective actions, and communicate findings.

Assess daily process quality parameters and oversee food safety and quality systems, including cross-checks, raw materials, calibration, maintenance, procedures, training, and analytical testing in control rooms.

Train new food safety and quality chemists, analysts, operators, technicians, and personnel from other areas.

Work under direct supervision, handling basic issues, and escalate complex problems to higher-level staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Flexibility and availability for overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

4 years of experience in a production or manufacturing QA role.

Experience with instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.

Laboratory experience in industry.

Quality assurance experience.

Ability to adapt and learn in a changing environment.

Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and word processing.

Strong analytical skills for evaluating change factors and making decisions.

Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve process and laboratory problems, and implement improvements.

Position Information

Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.
Position based in Watkins Glen, NY.

The expected salary range is $62,000 – $72,000, depending on factors such as location, certifications, education, and experience. The range may be adjusted based on geographic differentials.
