Role Description This is a remote, contract role for a Freelance Subtitle Translator at CJ OliveNetworks. The Subtitle Translator will translate and adapt subtitles for video content, ensuring accuracy, cultural relevance, and consistency with the tone and style of the original material. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing source scripts and video files, performing precise translations, timing and syncing subtitles, and proofreading for grammar, spelling, and formatting. The role also involves collaborating with internal teams or clients on terminology and style guides, meeting project deadlines, and following established quality assurance processes.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in at least one source language and one target language, with excellent command of grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions.
- Experience translating audiovisual content, including films, series, or digital media, with familiarity in subtitle timing and formatting standards.
- Ability to use subtitling software and tools (e.g., subtitle editors, CAT tools) and to work efficiently with digital file formats.
- Keen attention to detail for accurate translation, proofreading, and quality control, maintaining consistency with style guides and terminology.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a remote setting.
- Effective written communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working with project managers, editors, and other language professionals.
- Prior experience in media, entertainment, or localization is highly beneficial; familiarity with cultural nuances and current trends is a plus.
