SUMMARY: The Laboratory Lead Technician is responsible for working closely with the Laboratory Manager in performing all analytical testing as necessary. Must have the ability to understand all aspects of laboratory activities and perform procedures and other tasks satisfactorily through means of internal and/or external training. Will assist management in directing lab technicians by planning and assisting with work assignments, administering and enforcing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements while maintaining safe, sanitary working conditions for technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with coaching and training lab technicians.
Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas and assist management in process improvement.
Assist in the development of departmental standards and objectives.
Assist management in ensuring policies and procedures are being followed and the lab is producing defendable, accurate results.
Perform evaluations to ensure proper execution of techniques and methods and report any discrepancies.
Prepare and sterilize media for use in various analytical testing.
Demonstrate proficient knowledge of all required microbiological methods and procedures as needed.
Perform inventory as necessary to ensure stock and material control.
Perform all procedures and other tasks in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures Manual, the Laboratory Quality Manual, the ISO 17025 standard, and all other supporting programs.
Use proper sterile technique and maintain a clean, sanitary work environment.
Perform data entry and maintain lab records to ensure recordkeeping and documentation requirements are met.
Report to Lab Manager any significant problems which arise in daily work activities.
Operate and maintain equipment.
Must be able to be trained as necessary on various laboratory policies, procedures, and activities.
Report, review, and authorize results.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will not have supervisory responsibility.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
oHigh School diploma or equivalent AND 3+ years experience in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or closely related field.
oAbility to analyze data and project trends.
oGood communication, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
oWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Must have working knowledge of ISO 17025 standard and relevant regulatory requirements.
Preferred
oCollege Degree in related field
