Position Overview

The Group Risk Manager serves as a key strategic leader responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating enterprise-wide risks across all healthcare operations. This role ensures organizational resilience, regulatory compliance, and the protection of assets, reputation, and stakeholder interests.

The successful candidate will develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies while fostering a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide risk management framework aligned with organizational strategy and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across clinical, operational, financial, compliance, and technology domains
  • Identify, analyze, and prioritize risks using established methodologies and risk assessment tools
  • Develop and execute risk mitigation strategies and action plans with measurable outcomes
  • Monitor and track enterprise risks through dashboards, metrics, and regular reporting to executive leadership and the Board Risk Committee
  • Manage clinical and operational risk programs including incident reporting, trending analysis, and root cause investigations
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, state/local requirements) and industry standards
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and brokers regarding coverage, claims, and risk transfer strategies
  • Develop and deliver enterprise risk management training and awareness programs for all staff levels
  • Investigate serious incidents, sentinel events, and adverse outcomes; prepare detailed reports and recommendations
  • Partner with Quality, Compliance, Legal, and IT departments to ensure integrated risk management approach
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records consistent with retention policies and legal requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Master’s degree preferred (MBA, MHA, or related field)
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive healthcare risk management experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare regulatory environment and compliance requirements
  • Strong understanding of clinical operations, quality assurance, and patient safety principles
  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessment methodologies and enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Experience managing incident investigations and sentinel event reviews
  • Proficiency with risk management software and data analysis tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and organizational levels
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications (CPPS, ARM, RISKMASTER, or equivalent)
  • Healthcare management certifications or clinical background
  • Experience with The Joint Commission accreditation and survey processes
  • Knowledge of healthcare technology risks and cybersecurity
  • Experience with Board-level presentations and governance
  • Six Sigma or Lean process improvement certification

  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare risk management, compliance, and regulatory standards
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to influence across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
  • Strong project management capabilities with experience managing multiple initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, data analytics, and risk management software platforms
  • Crisis management and stakeholder communication expertise

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, use computer equipment, attend meetings, and perform site visits to healthcare facilities. Occasional travel to multiple locations may be required.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment with access to healthcare facilities. The role involves interaction with clinical and non-clinical staff at all organizational levels.

May be exposed to HIPAA-regulated patient information and confidential organizational data. Hours are typically standard business hours with occasional evening or weekend availability for organizational events or crisis situations.
