Purpose of the Role
The Head of Quality Assurance is responsible for leading and managing the end-to-end Quality Assurance function across manufacturing operations. The role ensures product and process quality, compliance with industry and regulatory requirements, continuous improvement of quality systems, customer satisfaction, audit readiness, and the implementation of world-class quality practices through digitalization, automation, and robust quality management systems.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Governance
- Lead and manage the overall Quality Assurance function across manufacturing operations.
- Develop and implement strategic quality initiatives aligned with business objectives.
- Establish and maintain a culture of quality excellence throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with customer, industry, regulatory (AERB), and company quality requirements.
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure adherence to quality procedures, standards, and work instructions.
- Lead internal and external quality audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Develop and maintain inspection and audit systems for Made-in-Works (MIW) products and processes.
Process & Product Quality
- Lead process and product audits across all manufacturing stages.
- Monitor and improve process capability and quality performance metrics including PPM, DPM, rework, and defect rates.
- Strengthen quality control methodologies and inspection processes.
- Drive process standardization and best-practice implementation across plants and production lines.
Quality Improvement & Problem Solving
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using SPC, Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Lead failure analysis activities and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Establish quality containment and ranking systems across products, parts, and manufacturing lines.
- Drive Managing Point and Check Point systems within the Quality Assurance framework.
Digitalization & Traceability
- Lead quality digitalization initiatives, including automation of inspection processes and electronic quality data management.
- Define end-to-end traceability requirements and collaborate with IT and hardware teams for implementation.
- Enhance product and process traceability systems to improve quality visibility and compliance.
Customer Quality Management
- Manage customer quality requirements and ensure timely resolution of customer complaints and field issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve customer satisfaction and quality performance.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for critical quality issues.
Team Development & Training
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Quality Assurance team.
- Conduct periodic quality training programs for operators, inspectors, supervisors, and engineers.
- Promote competency development and succession planning within the quality organization.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly quality MIS reports highlighting performance, risks, and improvement initiatives.
- Lead quality reviews and performance monitoring meetings.
- Develop, monitor, and achieve OKRs and quality KPIs.
Cost Optimization
- Lead quality-related OPEX and CAPEX improvement initiatives.
- Drive COPQ reduction programs.
- Optimize quality processes through automation and efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (B.E./B.Tech) or equivalent.
- Professional certifications in Quality Management, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or equivalent quality disciplines preferred.
Experience
- 20+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Extensive experience managing Quality Assurance functions across the product lifecycle.
- Proven track record in quality systems implementation, audits, process improvement, customer quality management, and team leadership.
