MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To ensure the mechanical integrity, safety, and reliability of fixed equipment and piping systems through field inspections, defect analysis, risk-based assessments, and maintenance support in a gasification and power production environment.
JOB OBJECTIVES
Conduct Routine and Specialized Equipment Inspections: To perform on-stream (OSI) and turnaround (T&I) inspections including visual, welding, coating, CUI/CUP, and dimensional checks to ensure the integrity of mechanical equipment and piping systems.
Support Preventive Maintenance and Field Requests: To respond to daily inspection requests from Operations & Maintenance and support countable PM activities within assigned process unit areas.
Identify and Manage Defects and Repairs: To detect defects, corrosion, blockages, and mechanical damage through visual and NDT techniques; issue findings and recommendations using SAP SAIF and monitor follow-up actions.
Monitor and Validate NDT and Pressure Testing: To initiate, monitor, and interpret results from NDT, hydrostatic, and pneumatic tests, ensuring equipment safety and conformance with standards and Safety Instruction Sheets.
Analyze Inspection Histories and Equipment Integrity: To review and summarize inspection data to evaluate equipment condition, identify failure trends, and develop inspection insights to guide repair or replacement decisions.
Develop and Implement Risk-Based Inspection Plans: To plan and execute inspections based on risk assessments, assign damage mechanisms, estimate corrosion rates, and define inspection scope, methods, and frequencies.
Prepare Technical Job Packs and Inspection Scopes: To create job packs and inspection scopes for process piping and in-service equipment, aligned with annual inspection plans and engineering evaluations.
Participate in Failure Investigations and Root Cause Analysis: To support or lead failure investigations, assess root causes and damage costs, and propose mitigation strategies to reduce recurrence and improve reliability.
Formal Qualifications/Education
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy Engineering
API certifications:
API 510 (Pressure Vessels), API 570 (Piping)
API 653 (Tanks), API 580 (Risk-Based Inspection)
Additional certifications (preferred):
AWS/CSWIP for welding inspection
NDT Level II in UT (Ultrasonic Testing), RT (Radiographic Testing), MT (Magnetic Particle Testing), PT (Penetrant Testing)
Job Related Work Experience
Minimum 10 years in the Oil & Gas industry
Minimum 10 years in Inspection and Corrosion field
Minimum 5 years with Inspection Management Systems and Corrosion Monitoring Systems
Experience in gas and hydrocarbon processing plants
Hands-on inspection during shutdowns/turnarounds and in-service operations
