Inspector – Entry Level
Responsibilities
- Ability to evaluate parts to company standards, including tolerances in the ten-thousandths.
- Operate machinery following traveler specifications.
- Perform various operations using machinery such as profilometers, tension gages, light box, hardness gage, etc.
- Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools such as manual micrometers and calipers.
- Perform first piece inspections, and complete ISIRs (initial sample inspection report) as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and wear protective gear while on the shop floor.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used and processes followed during production.
- Accurate tracking of productivity using production software by clocking in and out of jobs.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with company policies.
- Manage an inspection queue and ensure daily inspection goals are met.
- Ensuring the proper flow of rings and parts from operation to operation.
- Ability to follow and understand company policies and core values.
- Issuing NCRs (non-conformance reports) when parts are found to be non-conforming.
- Maintain a log of job runs and their current status (rejected, accepted, sort/rework, etc.).
- Perform gage verification as needed.
- Marking and identifying parts as non-conforming.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skill Required
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow basic written or oral instructions.
- Knowledge of how to read a traveler.
- Knowledge of how to use a manual micrometer, calipers, and hand tools (ring gages, feeler gauges, etc.)
- Ability to pass a basic math test with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use decimal points to ten-thousandths.
- Ability to perform basic algebra in order to compensate for difference in diameters between two gages.
- Able to effectively communicate and work in a team environment.
- Basic computer literacy preferred (Microsoft Suite, ERP system) — not required.
- Communicate across different levels within the organization ranging from shop to office employees.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements
- A 40+ hour work week, 10-hour shifts (Monday through Thursday).
- Schedule may shift after training to support 2nd shift coverage (e.g., a later start time such as 9am–6pm), by mutual agreement.
- Overtime may be required as needed to meet production demands, including working Fridays and/or Saturdays.
- Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Good manual hand dexterity.
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds at a time, including anything over 40 pounds with assistance (team lift).
- Ability to perceive differences in brightness and distinguish variations in light intensity.
