About the role

The Quality Assurance Regulatory Specialist position is responsible for ensuring food safety and quality at AAK Richmond, CA through the administration of Food Safety programs and documentation. This includes but not limited to updating and creating procedures, work instructions, and records that describe and document the operations of the facility, conducting formal monthly audits, and leading the Food Safety Committee.

Responsibilities

Safety & Environmental Performance

Lead the safety effort by personal example.
Identify personal safety, food safety, and environmental issues during formal monthly audits and informal continuous audits.
Participate as an active member of the Safety Committee and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Requirements

Ensure that the Quality Manual and Quality Library remain current and reflect actual work practices.
o Update procedures, work instructions, and records when changes are made in the facility.
o Update procedures, work instructions, and records when Production, Quality, the Quality Manager, or any other job function identifies an opportunity for improvement.
o Write training materials to facilitate training on changes.
o Update and upgrade the food safety auditing scheme when necessary.

Ensure food safety and quality:
o Maintain and update the HACCP plan for all production lines. Lead the HACCP team.
o Perform formal monthly food safety audits and informal continuous audits of the entire facility and assign and monitor corrective actions.
o Takes lead to provide Corrective Action Report back to the customer/ audit certifier.
o Perform formal monthly glass and brittle plastic audits and informal continuous audits of the entire facility and assign and monitor corrective actions.
o Ensure that all incoming packaging liners, super sacs, stretch wrap, and top sheets meet specifications. Reject non-conforming material.
o Oversees compilation and prompt of any Out of Specification monitoring results.

Maintain documentation for third-party audits.
o Ensure that relevant personnel are informed of audits and request their presence.
o Ensure that the facility is ready for inspection. Pre-audit meeting, inspection and review for each audit.
o Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.
o Prepare documentation and presentations for auditors, facilitating tours of the facility and answer questions. Develop pre-audit packet for all AAK Richmond, CA auditors.
o Provide documents in the Quality Manual and Quality Library for review.

Act as chairperson of the Food Safety Committee, which is an internal food safety auditing program:
o Set the yearly schedule of audits and update yearly paperwork.
o Lead monthly meetings and participate in daily meetings to discuss daily issues and work with QARM to suggest corrective actions by working cross functionally.
o Send out monthly audits for completion.
o Complete monthly audits as assigned.
o Follow up on corrective actions taken.

Respond to customer requests for information
o Fill out and return customer-supplied forms to Customer Service along with requested documents.
o Work with document specialist on customer portal.
o Update and maintain ICIX.
o Keep abreast of emerging regulatory trends and work on regulatory related projects.

Participate in Production, Quality, or R&D projects/ Corrective action related projects. Ensure personal and food safety throughout.

Other functions as needed by Production, Quality, or other departments.

About you
Required:

Engineering, Science, or food science degree, or 5+ years work experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Strong writing, oral communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate (verbal and written) with management, customers, and other co-workers
Regular use of telephone and e-mail for communication
Knowledge of word documents, spreadsheets, and e-mail
Preferred:

Knowledge of food manufacturing and food safety/HACCP.
Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
Knowledge of engineering principles (heat transfer, fluid flow).
Knowledge of statistics and data analysis.
Knowledge of chemistry and analytical testing
