Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) to join their team in Saint-Laurent, Quebec.
No prior commercial laboratory experience is required. The organization is open to candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in developing technical laboratory skills and becoming proficient in standard laboratory practices and procedures. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.
This role focuses exclusively on asbestos analysis within a structured laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and analyze bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) and PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy)
• Determine visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materials
• Perform ancillary quality control procedures in accordance with internal QA/QC standards
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into the LIMS system
• Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as required
• Perform quality control practices in accordance with the company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
• Support administrative duties including sample login, data entry, scanning, emailing reports, and answering phones
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
• Two-year diploma in Geology or a related scientific discipline (required)
• Training in light microscopy, optical mineralogy, or petrographic microscopy (preferred)
• Academic or commercial laboratory experience is an asset
• 0–1 year of experience performing asbestos PLM/PCM analysis (preferred but not required)
• Ability to distinguish colors accurately for analytical purposes
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to multitask
• Ability to travel for training to another company location in Canada or the United States
