Laboratory Assistant
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision and direction of a Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist, the Laboratory Assistant may perform the following duties:
Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens
Prepares batching of samples prior to loading instruments or delivering to the technical staff
Loads patient samples and controls onto automated instruments
Assists the laboratory staff in notifying clients of critical values according to the laboratory’s policy for notifying and documenting critical values
Archives specimens throughout the day into the LIS. Disposes specimens according to laboratory specimen retention policy and removes them from LIS archive files
Adheres to all laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs
In addition to an employee’s typical work schedule, this position may require employees to work weekends, split shifts, overtime, and holidays if needed by the Company. Other duties may apply as necessary
Monitors the LIS backlogs at a minimum every 30 minutes to determine if any priority client patient samples are delayed longer than 1 hour after accessioned
Other job-related duties as assigned by management
REQUIREMENTS
At least two (2) years’ experience in clinical laboratory preferred
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedure is required. Ability to work the computer
system, analyzer machines, and telephones
High School Diploma or GED required. Associates of Science Degree or Bachelor of
Science degree from accredited college or university preferred
Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:00pm
