Position Summary:
The Lead QA/QC Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and control activities related to the installation and commissioning of static and rotating mechanical equipment. The focus includes GTGs, HRSGs, STG, ACC, and mechanical balance of plant equipment. This role ensures all activities are in full compliance with project quality requirements, industry codes, and contractual obligations. The position reports to the Senior Quality Manager and directly supervises QAQC Mechanical Inspector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical QA/QC activities across site, covering installation, alignment, inspection, preservation, and commissioning of rotating and static equipment (excluding piping and welding).
- Supervise and mentor Mechanical Inspectors, ensuring effective implementation of ITPs and inspection protocols.
- Review and approve EPC contractor’s quality-related documents including ITPs, method statements, and checklists specific to mechanical systems.
- Monitor quality compliance during installation of Mitsubishi-supplied Gas Turbines and Doosan-supplied Steam Turbine, HRSGs, and ACC systems.
- Ensure quality control of balance of plant mechanical equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, tanks, pumps, compressors).
- Coordinate with EPC contractor, Owner’s Engineer, and vendors to ensure timely resolution of quality issues.
- Track and verify equipment preservation, handling, and installation in line with OEM and project requirements.
- Participate in FATs and SATs as required.
- Manage NCRs and ensure robust close-out with preventive action plans.
- Prepare QA/QC reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 12 years of QA/QC experience in large-scale power generation projects preferably experience in Combined Cycle Power Plants of similar size.
- At least 5 years in a similar leadership QA/QC mechanical role.
- Experience with Mitsubishi Gas Turbines and/or Doosan Steam Turbines is a strong plus.
- Deep understanding of mechanical equipment installation and commissioning standards.
- Familiarity with codes and standards such as API, ASME (Sec I, VIII, IX), ISO 9001.
- Experience working with major EPC contractors.
- Strong documentation, inspection, and reporting skills.
