This role is essential for providing comprehensive support to attorneys specializing in medical malpractice cases. The Legal Assistant will manage various administrative tasks, ensuring that deadlines are met and that all documentation is accurate and organized. This position requires strong attention to detail, as the assistant will be responsible for drafting legal documents and maintaining case files. Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 / Year DOE
Legal Assistant Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling medical malpractice cases
- Draft, format, and proofread legal documents including pleadings, discovery requests/responses, correspondence, and subpoenas
- Manage case files, medical records, and discovery databases (physical and electronic)
- Request, track, and organize medical records, bills, and expert reports
- Assist with deposition, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation
- Coordinate attorney calendars, court deadlines, hearings, and appointments
- Communicate with clients, medical providers, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed
- Maintain accurate case tracking systems and ensure compliance with deadlines
Legal Assistant Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant
- Experience in a defense firm, preferably in medical malpractice
- Knowledge of federal and state filing procedures
- High school diploma
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Paralegal certification with billing capability is preferred
