Job Duties:
Serve as subject matter expert in product categories, regulatory interpretation, and as the food safety and quality representative for new product, process start-up, and qualification activities; Represent Quality Assurance [QA] and Quality Control [QC] on Project Management teams, coordinating quality efforts with core team members; Devise and establish company’s quality procedures, standards, and specifications; Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers; Set standards for quality as well as health and safety; Make sure production processes comply with international and national standards; Define quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff; Set up and maintain controls and documentation procedures; Monitor food safety and quality performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports; Make suggestions for changes and improvements and advise how to implement them; Use relevant quality tools and make sure managers and other staff understand how to improve the business; Manages SQF processes while collaborating with technical and laboratory staff to ensure the effectiveness of quality control and quality assurance practices; Develop rapport with plant and QA managers of all company owned facilities; Utilize Six Sigma, Lean, and other continuous improvement concepts to improve quality, efficiency, and waste; Stay current with all key regulatory and certifying agency guidelines; Provide support for quality and process improvement initiatives; and Work closely with Research and Development team to troubleshoot and communicate formulation and process problems where necessary and ensure root cause and corrective actions are appropriate and are fully implemented.
Primary Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in food science or biotechnology
Primary Experience Required:
Two years of experience in the job offered or in Quality Assurance in food and/or beverage manufacturing environment
Special Requirements:
2 years of experience Operating HACCP, Sanitation, and Food Processing knowledge in developing food safety and quality systems; Working with plant production systems, manufacturing equipment, GMP, SOP, Sanitation, Plant Safety, GFSI audit scheme SQF, and Food Safety Modernization Act Regulations (FSMA, Preventive Controls); Acting as Lead internal auditor and maintain SQF certification for manufacturing facility developing, implementing, and maintaining food safety and quality management systems; Applying technical and scientific knowledge of product development, product formulation, industrial processes such as critical control points, and compliance of equipment for commercialized regulatory standards; and Preparing record keeping, presentations, and documentation for internal audits in accordance with SQF requirements to higher level management. Must have HACCP Certification.
