Summary
The Director of Quality Assurance, Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance is responsible for the overall Quality Assurance, Product Safety, and Regulatory Compliance Program and works closely with the executive management team in the development and monitoring of the program itself within both the Minnesota and Washington facilities. This leader ensures that products and processes are in compliance with regulations, specifications, contract requirements and quality system standards. With a deep understanding of related processes, tools and best practices, they will scale and apply in practice. This position also has contact and interaction with UK counterparts, but no direct reporting relationship.
The Director of Quality Assurance, Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance will develop and ensure administration of the company-wide quality program, from acquisition of raw materials and supplies through and including final packaging and shipping of finished product. The Director’s oversight includes the quality function which will serve as liaison among production, purchasing, R&D and sales and operations departments to ensure all specifications and customer requirements are pertinent, accurate, well documented and followed. Ensures customer complaints are resolved.
Responsible for inspections of processes, employee training, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations, conformance with GFSI standards (e.g., BRC, SQF) and compliance with applicable CPSC and FDA regulatory requirements. Defines best practices and provides guidance and adherence to quality policies. Integral part of plant leadership team.
Responsibilities:
Complete oversight and responsibility for quality and regulatory for both facilities in Anoka, MN (warehouse/distribution) and Fife, WA (manufacturing operations) and additional sites as required.
Provide oversight, coaching and development of the department managers and their direct reports.
Direct and oversee the product safety assessment process to mitigate food safety risks and protect the customer.
Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements; functioning as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all product safety related trends, regulations, and legislation, while maintaining a high level of expertise on related subjects.
Function as a strategic resource in evaluating new acquisitions, assuring product safety (edible and nonedible) and quality standards are properly addressed.
Develop and implement continuous improvement enhancements in the quality and product safety areas by setting goals and identifying key performance indicators to ensure production of safe, quality products in the most cost-effective manner.
Assure customer satisfaction by ensuring processes to address complaints is cross-functionally effective, consistently applied and visible through key performance indicators.
Work closely with operations, engineering, purchasing, logistics, and other departments to provide guidance on, and assure implementation of, food safety programs and hygienic design of facilities and their equipment.
Assure compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the effectiveness of the food safety program across the organization; fulfil role of PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).
Ensure conformance with applicable industry standards, including GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative schemes as implemented in facilities (e.g., SQF, BRC); lead SQF and other regulatory audits; and fulfil the role of SQF practitioner (or equivalent by standard).
Ensure business relationships are developed and maintained with appropriate regulatory agencies.
Regular and punctual attendance and physical presence in the workplace.
Timely and accurate completion of duties.
Establish appropriate testing procedures, maintain documentation and ensure timely follow-up on all issues.
Provide continuous improvement in quality and product safety.
Qualifications:
5+ years’ experience leading QA Managers at a Senior Manager, Director or VP level.
Minimum of 10 years in a regulated food manufacturing industry, with responsibilities in Quality Assurance and food safety.
Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related fields. Science degrees in other disciplines (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Engineering) will be considered depending upon previous work experience.
Project management experience including demonstrated change management competency.
Demonstrated ability to investigate, analyze, solve complex problem situations and implement appropriate solutions; work effectively with others to do so.
Knowledge, understanding and experience with regulatory requirements and compliance for both food and nonfood products, including from U.S., Canadian, and other markets into which products are sold.
Experience with BRC regulated environments
Ability to travel up to 25%

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Work Environment:
Work is performed in a hybrid work environment – both in an office environment and remote work. This position will be required to occasionally work in a warehouse / distribution center setting as well as a manufacturing environment. The noise level in an office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the warehouse /distribution center is moderate. The noise level in the manufacturing environment may require the use hearing protection. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.
