Summary of the role

Nordson – Optical Sensors and Metrology (OSM) division is seeking a Quality Engineer II based in our Elk Grove Village, IL facility. This position will play an integral role to improve customer satisfaction, drive end-to-end quality improvements, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility. Specific focus will be quality data analysis, developing meaningful metrics, identifying key areas for improvement, leveraging cross-functional expertise, data-driven corrective and continuous improvement actions to ensure our products are able to deliver top customer satisfaction. This position will be responsible for assuring product quality, quality compliance, and achievement of defined quality objectives. The Quality Engineer II position will report directly to the division’s Senior Global Quality Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Monitor customer and related end-to-end quality issues associated with defined product families; maintain quality databases; determine failure trends, initiate corrective actions and drive cross-functional teams to address systemic issues using data driven approach and suitable problem-solving techniques.
Initiate, drive and effectively utilize 8D problem-solving tool for containment actions, root cause investigations, determine & verify corrective/preventative actions, and monitor for issue recurrence.
Coordinate diagnosis of customer returned parts, remote field troubleshooting and analyses of complex failures between internal teams, suppliers and external test labs.
Generate failure analysis reports, response packages for external reporting to address customers’ quality concerns.
Leverage customer relationship management systems (SAP’s C4C) to track and narrow down on key customer challenges; leverage cross-functional expertise to contain and fix field issues.
Develop field troubleshooting guides and workaround methods to manage field issues and to minimize downtime scenarios.
Generate meaningful reports with quality metrics and summaries on a regular basis to bring visibility on customer quality/satisfaction to concerned cross-functional and management teams.
Support supplier quality activities that include monitoring defined product families’ non-conformance data, identifying failure trends and initiate supplier corrective actions (SCARs) on potential issues that can flow down to the customers.
Ensure supplier’s corrective and preventive action plans are developed and executed in compliance with Nordson’s and customer’s expectations.
Support Nordson’s cellular and process-controlled manufacturing through utilization of Nordson Business System, NBS Next’s best practices with focus on improving production quality and quality of outgoing products.
Ensure performance specifications and testing methods are aligned across the supply chain, through integration, and into the field.
Monitor key quality metrics (COPQ, FPY) for continuous improvements and drive meaningful actions to reduce quality costs (warranty, scrap & rework costs) & improve throughput yield.
Support in developing and maintaining quality procedures, work instructions and records in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standard and customer requirements.
Perform internal audits; provide support in audit preparations and participate in ISO 9001 and customer audits.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or technical related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality engineering or related engineering field.

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience working in an ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing environment or equivalent.
Experience using ERP software such as SAP and/ or SAP’s Cloud for Customer (C4C) platform.
Demonstrated experience in the methods and applications related to Pareto analysis, Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA), 8D, Lean Six Sigma techniques, FMEA, Control Plans and statistical knowledge or experience is required.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings or blueprints.
Must be detail oriented, creative and perceptive with the ability to multi-task and handle multiple quality issues simultaneously.
Ability to work in a collaborative and cross-functional team environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and quality control applications.
ASQ certification such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is preferred.
Experience with electromechanical assemblies or precision technology assemblies or metrology systems is a plus.
Superior data mining, data analysis and problem-solving skills preferred.

Compensation

Base Salary Range for this position is: $81,000 to $97,000 annually, and bonus target is 3%; shift premium may be available depending on shift associated with the specific job opportunity. Benefits include Medical, Rx, Vision, Dental, and Health Savings Account (HSA), Retirement and Security benefits including 401k and Life Insurance. In addition to Paid Time Off and paid Holidays, each employee receives 16 hours paid time each calendar year to perform volunteer services for Nordson-sponsored events. The base pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, business considerations, and local market conditions, as well as candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, and skills
