Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Materials Testing Quality Control Engineer to provide technical leadership for QC and materials testing on transportation, transit, utility, and infrastructure projects. This role oversees field and laboratory testing, verifies compliance with contract specifications, manages QC documentation, and resolves material-related issues in accordance with WSDOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and WAQTC requirements.

Duties

  • Manage project QC and materials testing programs, including developing and implementing project-specific QC Plans.
  • Review and approve field and laboratory test results for compliance with WSDOT, ASTM, AASHTO, WAQTC, and contract specifications.
  • Investigate non-conforming materials and recommend corrective actions.
  • Supervise and mentor Materials Testing Technicians and inspectors.
  • Review Records of Materials (ROM), daily reports, and other QC documentation.
  • Coordinate with owners, contractors, laboratories, and project teams; support audits, project meetings, and client reporting.
  • Promote safety and continuous quality improvement.

Experience

  • Proven experience in construction quality assurance or quality control management within large-scale building projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction management software platforms for data tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes including plumbing, mechanical, electrical systems, structural systems, and energy regulations.
  • Hands-on experience conducting construction inspections and interpreting technical drawings or blueprints.
  • Familiarity with federal construction safety regulations and local construction regulations is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively while managing multiple inspection activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent analysis skills for evaluating material test results against standards and specifications.
  • Prior experience working on diverse construction sites with a focus on quality compliance management is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of construction materials testing and quality control experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Certifications

  • WAQTC certifications.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, Grade I.
  • NICET or ICC certification.
  • WSDOT materials testing experience strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of WSDOT Materials Manual M46-01 and Construction Manual.
  • ASTM and AASHTO test methods.
  • Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and electronic field reporting systems.
  • Quality management systems and document control.

Pay: $65.00 – $70.00 per hour
