Mechanical Assembly QC Technician
Position Overview
The role is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated equipment is properly assembled, inspected, and documented according to Granite Peak Fabrication quality standards.
This role serves as a proactive quality checkpoint during the assembly process and the final mechanical verification before equipment moves out of the assembly bays. The individual in this position must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while coordinating with multiple departments.
This position does not supervise employees but requires a self-starting individual who manages their time efficiently, prioritizes work based on project progress and production schedules, and ensures all inspection tasks are completed each week without direct oversight.
This role is responsible for identifying issues early, communicating them quickly, and ensuring projects move through assembly complete, documented, and meeting Granite Peak Fabrication quality standards.
Core Responsibilities
Proactive Mechanical Assembly Inspections
Mechanical assembly inspections are performed proactively during the assembly process or at final mechanical completion, depending on project needs.
These inspections must occur before electrical installation begins and before the skid leaves the assembly bays.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing fabrication drawings and project documentation to understand the scope of the equipment being inspected.
- Inspecting assemblies during the build process to verify work is progressing according to drawings and project specifications.
- Performing a final mechanical inspection once mechanical assembly is complete.
- Confirming all structural components, piping, and mechanical assemblies are properly installed and secured.
- Verifying components such as valves, piping connections, supports, and mechanical hardware are installed correctly.
- Confirming mechanical systems are complete prior to electrical installation.
- Ensuring assemblies meet Granite Peak Fabrication craftsmanship and quality standards.
If deficiencies are identified, they must be communicated immediately so corrections can be made before the project moves into the next stage of production.
Quality Control Inspection
The Assembly & QC Inspection Specialist performs inspections to confirm that mechanical assembly meets Granite Peak Fabrication quality standards.
Inspection responsibilities include verifying:
- Mechanical assemblies are complete
- Components match project drawings
- Fabrication and assembly work meets quality expectations
- Required fabrication steps have been completed
- Required NDE or inspection processes have been completed
- Tags, nameplates, and identifiers are installed correctly when applicable
- Assemblies are ready to move forward to the next stage of production
When deficiencies are identified, the employee must:
- Notify the appropriate Project Manager and Production Manager
- Clearly describe the issue and location
- Work with the appropriate team to ensure the issue is corrected before production progresses
Communication Responsibilities
This position requires regular communication with multiple departments to maintain project schedules and quality standards.
The employee must communicate with:
- Project Managers
- Production Manager
- Warehouse
- Drafting and Engineering
- Quality Control personnel
- Department Managers
Communication responsibilities include:
- Reporting quality issues
- Reporting missing components or materials
- Reporting documentation deficiencies
- Reporting design issues identified during inspection
- Highlighting concerns that could delay production schedules
Issues should be communicated early so they can be resolved before impacting project schedules.
Time Management & Self-Directed Work
This role requires strong personal accountability and the ability to manage workload independently.
The employee must:
- Monitor assembly progress and production schedules
- Prioritize inspections accordingly
- Perform proactive inspections during assembly
- Ensure mechanical inspections occur before electrical work begins
- Ensure projects leaving assembly bays have been inspected
- Coordinate inspection timing with production progress
Because this position operates independently, the employee must demonstrate:

- Reliability in completing all weekly responsibilities
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position requires work in an active fabrication shop environment.
Employees must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Work in outdoor conditions when required
- Work in hot, cold, windy, or otherwise inclement weather
- Walk, climb, bend, and stand for extended periods
- Work around heavy equipment and fabrication machinery
All company safety practices must be followed.
Required Skills & Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in oil & gas fabrication or heavy industrial manufacturing
- Experience reading fabrication drawings and assembly prints
- Familiarity with shop fabrication processes
- Basic understanding of quality control inspections
- Strong organizational skills
- Clear written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to identify problems and escalate issues quickly
