Job Description
Title: Director of Quality Reports To: VP of Quality
Department: Quality FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Band/Salary: $153,000-178,000
JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Director is responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining processes and practices within the quality management system that help the organization achieve the highest quality standards possible and minimize product defects. Represents the organization when collaborating with the customers on higher level projects. Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems business and production processes to meet internal/external customer requirements. Leads Quality Engineers to support the manufacturing locations with customer and supplier management. Supports the manufacturing locations with the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.
Essential Functions:
Formulates and maintains quality objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
Review, report and improve quality performance (customer satisfaction, quality cost, process performance data etc.) and provide strategic direction to improve quality performance.
Support plants in resolving quality problems and provide on-site leadership.
Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
Leads the APQP process and Advanced Quality effort.
Support new programs with QMS standards, APQP, FMEA and participate in improvement initiatives.
Assesses and recommends metrology equipment and software.
Manages customer scorecard processes and drives improvement activities with the manufacturing locations.
Supports the internal audit team with AS9100/ISO14001/NADCAP internal audits.
Supports customer and third party AS9100/ISO14001/NADCAP based audits.
Foster collaboration among stakeholders and align organizational and customer goals.
Applies statistical methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
Oversee quality organization structure and ensure adequate resources for training, onboarding, sharing best practices.
Lead Quality Manager meetings and review best practices.
Analyze data to identify risks and initiate improvement projects by developing and executing long-term progressive strategy to ensure the Quality function becomes increasingly proactive.
Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervisory responsibilities with the ability to train/mentor up to 2 team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
Knowledge and experience working with AS9100D/IATF16949/ISO9001 Standard.
Knowledge of Systems based design and related Standards/Processes
Ability to read and understand drawings. Working knowledge of GD&T
Capable with Microsoft Office tools – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Understand of lean thinking, using lean tools to improve performance
Technical Analysis: Expert in statistical tools, process capability
Problem Solving: Uses root cause analysis tools like 8D, 5 Why, and/or Ishikawa.
Solid understanding of Continuous Improvement with proven track record of implementation
Effective and professional communication and organization skills
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to present to clients and internal stakeholders
Familiarity of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition.
Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently.
Must promote collaboration and facilitate teamwork across the organization and its external service providers.
Must be tactful, diplomatic, and work with integrity, honesty, and respect for others.
Customer Oriented: Must display exceptional listening and analytical skills in order to understand customer concerns and needs with the ability to respond promptly and effectively to those needs.
High level of self-motivation and standards with the ability to multi-task; balancing “analysis” with “doing”. Must be adaptable and able to prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Work on own initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree with 7-9 years of relevant experience
Experience in scaling quality teams and processes in a fast paced environment

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with 10-12 years of relevant experience: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with 7-9 years of relevant experience; or high school diploma with at least 15 years relevant experience.

Experience:
5 or more years of relevant manufacturing experience
5 or more years of leadership / supervisory / managerial experience
Experience of working in a multi-national, multi-organizational and corporate environment
Experience with quality, engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry

Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
All employment at ARV is contingent upon the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance if the position requires it.
