Nonprofit Audit Quality Specialist (CPA) Jobs in Remote at RCO

Job Summary

Established CPA firm specializing exclusively in nonprofit organizations seeks an experienced CPA to provide technical audit quality support on a flexible, project-based basis. This position is ideal for a former audit partner, senior manager, quality control reviewer, or experienced nonprofit audit professional seeking flexible remote work.

Rather than managing day-to-day client engagements, this role focuses on enhancing audit quality, strengthening engagement documentation, reviewing financial statements and audit files, and serving as a technical accounting and auditing resource to engagement teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical reviews of audit documentation and engagement files.
  • Review financial statements, footnote disclosures, audit reports, management letters, and required communications for compliance with U.S. GAAP and professional standards.
  • Assist engagement teams in resolving complex accounting and auditing issues.
  • Evaluate compliance with U.S. GAAS, Uniform Guidance, Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and nonprofit auditing requirements.
  • Review completed and post-issuance engagement files and recommend improvements to audit quality and documentation.
  • Assist with the firm’s quality management initiatives and internal monitoring activities.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding audit methodology, risk assessment, internal controls, and audit documentation.
  • Assist with updating firm templates, checklists, practice aids, and technical guidance.
  • Research emerging accounting and auditing issues affecting nonprofit organizations.
  • Serve as a technical accounting and auditing resource to partners and engagement teams.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of recent public accounting experience.
  • Significant nonprofit audit experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of: U.S. GAAP and U.S. GAAS.
  • Uniform Guidance, GAO, Single Audit experience.
  • Nonprofit financial reporting
  • Experience performing engagement quality reviews, internal inspections, or quality management activities preferred.
  • Experience with CCH ProSystem fx Engagement (or comparable audit software) preferred.
  • Excellent technical accounting, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engagement teams.

Position Details

  • Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Remote
  • Flexible schedule
  • Approximately 20–40 hours per week, depending on workload.
  • $100.00–$130.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • No business development responsibilities.
  • No staff management responsibilities.
  • This position is anticipated to begin as an independent contractor (1099) engagement. Depending on firm needs and mutual interest, there may be an opportunity for future full-time employment.

Pay: $100.00 – $140.00 per hour
