Position Summary

The OSP (Outside Plant) Field Inspector is responsible for overseeing and inspecting field construction activities related to fiber optic network deployment, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and local regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and monitor daily OSP construction activities, including underground, aerial, and directional boring operations.
  • Ensure all construction is performed according to engineered designs, permits, and company specifications.
  • Conduct quality control inspections on conduit placement, handholes, vaults, fiber installation, restoration, and splicing preparation.
  • Verify compliance with safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company safety policies.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility companies, municipalities, and internal project teams to resolve field issues.
  • Track project progress and provide daily, weekly, and milestone reports.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Review and document as-built changes and field deviations.
  • Ensure proper traffic control and public safety measures are in place at all active job sites.
  • Monitor material usage and verify delivered materials align with project requirements.
  • Support permit compliance and assist with inspections from local municipalities and utility owners.
  • Escalate critical issues, damages, utility strikes, or delays immediately to management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in OSP fiber construction, telecom infrastructure, or utility inspection.
  • Strong understanding of underground and aerial fiber optic construction practices.
  • Knowledge of directional drilling, trenching, plowing, and restoration methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction prints, permits, and fiber route maps (KMZ, GIS, etc.).
  • Experience with utility locating, 811 processes, and damage prevention.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and field compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, field reporting tools, and construction tracking systems.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required (must maintain an acceptable driving record).
  • Ability to travel regularly to job sites and work in various outdoor environments.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites, including uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as project demands require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with fiber network builds, long-haul, metro, or data center infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of permitting requirements and utility coordination.

Work Environment

This is primarily a field-based role requiring daily site visits and active construction oversight. Exposure to weather conditions, construction zones, and varying terrain is expected.

Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
