Position: Product Scientist I

Targeted Base Salary Range (if applicable):

$61,200.00 – $79,400.00

The Product Scientist (Chemist) role conducts analyses on raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards. Follows all ISO 17025 Management System protocols, adheres to Good Laboratory Practices and follows safety requirements. Creates and distributes laboratory reports. Assists with the training and implementation of all practices and procedures associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conducts analyses on raw materials and finished food products to ensure compliance with Blue Diamond Growers quality standards, customer requirements, and US/foreign government regulations.

Responsible for the operation, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation. Complies with county hazardous waste disposal requirements.

Initiates and completes Corrective Action Report or Preventive Action Report to address nonconformities or opportunities for improvement. Completes root cause investigation, identifies potential corrective action, selects/implements corrective action, and monitors corrective action.

Helps coordinate workflow activities for Chemistry Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants. Assists with sample processing and laboratory bench work as needed.

Fulfills all requirements associated with maintaining USDA Aflatoxin approval.

Meets all collaborative standards associated with laboratory proficiency programs.

Performs Environmental Monitoring of the Production Facilities.

Provides laboratory reports relating to laboratory analyses, disposition of products, holds and clearances.

Performs internal audits as assigned.

Provides technical assistance for Industrial Operations Departments, as well as for Customer Service Reps and Sales Managers.

Analyzes technical aspects of activities and determines appropriate methods and procedures to be used. Conducts method development.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Job Requirements:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related field.

Three to five years of applicable laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Team attitude and cooperation. Fosters a positive working environment. Ability to relay clear and concise communication.

Thorough knowledge and technical proficiency in analytical chemistry, instruments and techniques including accurate preparation of solutions and standards, spiking technique, and knowledge of gas/liquid chromatography. Knowledge associated with Laboratory Information Management System.

Quality, sanitary, accuracy and quantity of analysis work. Reliability of judgments and decisions made. Possess good time management and organizational skills for daily tasks and long-term projects. Takes initiative.
