MCI is a 44-year-old industry leader in the design, manufacture, and assembly of electrical controls, electrical enclosures, irrigation pumps and controls, municipal and commercial pump stations, water purification systems and design-to-order metal fabrications. We serve a variety of industries with standard and custom products including water pumping, oil production-drill and refining controls, waste water treatment, conveying, baggage conveying, handling, and process control to name a few.

Job Summary

We need an experienced Quality Control – Metal Fabrication Inspector who can read and follow schematics to monitor and measure products to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities (as listed; in addition to other duties as specified by management)

Inspect metal fabrication prior to the product moving to the next operation
Perform sample inspections at a minimum in accordance with sample size guidelines
Check that gauge and type of material is correct
Check that overall dimensions are within specification tolerance. (Height, width, depth)
Check that all welded parts are correct material type and in correct locations (ground studs, back plate studs, hinges) and will withstand bending
Check that cutouts and holes are in correct locations
Check welds for holes and cracks
Check for burrs, gouges and splatter in metal
Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, reject unacceptable product, work with engineering as needed for product compliance
Check pre- and post- paint quality
Properly document inspection outcomes
Clock into and out of Work Ticket program as required

Other Skills

Must be detail-oriented and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization
Ability to interface with engineering and management to ensure product quality is maintained

Qualifications and Education Requirements

2 or more years of machining inspection experience required
Applicant must be self-driven with a knack for working well in fast-paced manufacturing environment
Must demonstrate a knowledge of standard quality measuring instruments
Knowledge of metal fabrication and welds as well as all stages of painting metal; both powder coat and wet paint applications
Ability to read, understand and apply work tickets and prints/schematics
Must work well with others and take pride in the quality of the end work product

Work Environment

The mechanical inspector works in a manufacturing environment with no climate control. The successful candidate must be willing to work overtime. The noise level may be high at times. While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to lift up to 50 pounds or more; stand; walk; use hand to reach, feel, or balance; climb; bend; twist; stoop; crouch; crawl; or kneel. Employee will be exposed to paint fumes and other or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and moderate to high noise levels. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and ability to adjust focus
