Job Description
General Description:
The purpose of the role is to provide laboratory and instructional support for faculty in the Physical Sciences. Responsibilities include managing the lab budget, ordering equipment and supplies, overseeing inventory of equipment and chemicals, maintaining accurate records, and analyzing costs and benefits of purchases. The incumbent will assist faculty in modifying and developing laboratory procedures, ensure quality control and compliance with standard operating procedures, and oversee safety regulations in accordance with federal laws. Additional responsibilities include supporting other lab staff, training new faculty on lab procedures, supporting the Science Learning Center, and performing other lab related administrative duties.

Duties and Tasks:
Oversee and coordinate operational policies and procedures for science laboratories.
Work collaboratively with other laboratory staff, ensuring appropriate coverage for evenings and weekends.
Set up science laboratory experiments, may include chemistry, physics, and geology labs.
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and technologies to improve lab efficiency.
Oversee and enforce safety protocols for Math, Science, Technology, and Business (MSTB), including compliance with campus and college safety plans and training programs.
Oversee all aspects of inventory, including proper repair, surplus, and disposal when necessary.
Plan and conduct training sessions to ensure compliance with established practices and introduce new policies.
Maintain and repair laboratory equipment, keeping detailed records of costs and service history.
Order and reconcile purchases.
Assist in designing and implementing new laboratory experiments to support curriculum development.
Support the Science Learning Center by assisting with staffing and operational functions.
Collaborate with faculty, bookstore staff, and other departments to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
Oversees work study students
Collect feedback from faculty and share insights with the Dean’s office for institutional decision-making.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications
KSA’s:
Strong organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to solve equipment usage problems, such adopting new parts to an existing equipment.
Knowledgeable in data collections systems, such as PASCO and Vernier
Knowledge of basic statistical methods and data analysis techniques
Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and the proper handling of chemicals and equipment
Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
Ability to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities

Minimum Requirements:
Experience with Microsoft Office
Experience with proper setup of undergraduate level science (physics, chemistry, geology, etc…) labs.
