Position Summary
The Associate Quality Engineer has the responsibility to disposition material, report on non-sellable inventory, address customer concerns, and participate in both internal as well as external audits. Contributes to process improvements and assists in the development of work instructions and documentation standardization. Identifies nonconforming material and the causes for nonconformance. Knowledge/understanding of steel manufacturing processes. Understanding of material properties, potential imperfections, and issues associated with steelmaking that lead to nonconformances.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Identify nonconforming material and determine/trace the causes of the nonconformance.
Disposition material and report on non sellable inventory.
Address and handle customer concerns specifically related to Hercules Drawn Steel and to the Eaton Steel Taylor facility.
Participate in internal audits and recommend process improvements, where assigned.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement and maintain high quality standards.
Analyze data and generate reports to identify trends, defects, and areas for improvement.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
Assist in the development and maintenance of quality documentation, including inspection records and corrective actions.
Provide training and support to team members on quality control processes and best practices.
Work closely with both internal and external customers to address quality concerns and provide support.
Authorities
Authority to shut down manufacturing processes to prevent production of nonconforming material
Authority to suspend all activities that pose a threat, or have been deemed unsafe that could potentially endanger themselves or other employees
Disposition material out of quarantine to rework, prime, or scrap.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or quality assurance preferred.
Steel/metals manufacturing experience preferred.
5 years’ experience as a Quality Engineer or similar role preferred
Strong understanding of quality control principles, methodologies, and tools.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in using quality management software and tools.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
Preferred Skills:
Certification in Quality Management (e.g., Six Sigma, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer).
Experience in the steel industry or a related field.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other relevant management standards.
Adaptability – Adapt to changes in the work environment; Manage competing demands; Change approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,177.00 – $82,500.00 per year
