ABOUT Hermosa
Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Specialist, Quality Assurance supports the management of construction activities for the Exploration and Ventilation Shafts. Responsibilities include support of management of multiple contractors and subcontractors including: planning, scheduling, reporting, health, safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, community relations and meeting targets within budget and on time. This role requires heavy field interaction and interface with integrated construction teams. This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
Support the management of the site construction contractors
Ensure that work is always executed in a safe manner
Ensure that South32 corporate safety and business goals are met or exceeded
Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s environmental policies and plans
Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s community relations policies and plans
Review and provides input on project construction designs and schedules as they relate to Quality
Assist Contractors with implementation of remedial recovery actions when NCRs are identified as required
Ensure strict compliance with South32 Change Management processes
Ensure timely delivery of project construction QA/QC services to internal stakeholders
Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to inspect and report on the work of construction contractors and vendor supplied materials
Periodically reviews the Construction Management Execution Plan to ensure conformity with current requirements and recommend revisions as required
Assure Code and Procedural compliance for construction activities related to the Underground Development and Construction
Develop Inspection and Test Plans per the specific work packages
Review Contractors and Vendors Quality Management Systems and preform periodic audits of the same
Identify contractor performance issues and work with Contractor and other internal stakeholders to resolve issues
Assist and provide guidance and mentoring to Junior QA/QC Technicians
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including Federal, State, and Local
Ensure conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
Ensure that all work conforms with the specified quality standards
Perform other QA/QC duties as assigned by the Manager Project Execution and Construction
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
Technical Degree in Construction Management fields or Similar, OR appropriate Trade qualifications
3+ years of large-scale mining/construction site experience as related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control
Prior underground construction experience preferred
Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
Experience working with teams and interacting with customers
Proven track record maintaining a safe work culture
Experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations
Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
Knowledge of shaft and other underground construction practices
Strong understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control management concepts and best practices
Effective communication and engagement skills
Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
Ability to read, interpret, and comment on 2D and 3D designs and specifications for the work
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
Strong English language written and oral communication skills
