Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Food Science, Industrial Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 5 8 years of progressive experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or Quality Management within an edible oil, food processing, or manufacturing environment.

Job Summary

The Quality Control & Quality Assurance (QC/QA) Manager is responsible for leading all quality assurance and quality control activities within the soybean crude oil production facility. This role ensures that raw materials, production processes, and finished products consistently meet food safety regulations, industry standards, and customer requirements. The incumbent will establish and maintain effective quality systems, oversee laboratory operations, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities: 1. Quality Control & Process Monitoring

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve quality control procedures and inspection programs across the production process.
  • Supervise the inspection and testing of incoming soybeans for moisture, foreign materials, damaged kernels, and oil content to ensure compliance with raw material specifications.
  • Monitor critical process parameters during cleaning, dehulling, conditioning, flaking, solvent extraction, desolventizing, and other processing stages to maintain product quality and maximize production efficiency.
  • Oversee laboratory analysis of crude soybean oil, including:
    • Free Fatty Acid (FFA)
    • Peroxide Value (PV)
    • Moisture & Volatile Matter (M&V)
    • Insoluble Impurities
    • Color, odor, and other quality characteristics
  • Review quality results and authorize product release only when specifications have been achieved.

2. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable food safety regulations and quality standards, including GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, ISO 9001, FDA, NAFDAC, and other relevant statutory requirements.
  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) to support certification and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare for and coordinate internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Maintain complete documentation, batch records, laboratory reports, inspection records, and quality documentation to ensure traceability and compliance.

3. Laboratory Management

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations and ensure accurate, reliable, and timely testing.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment, instruments, and testing devices are properly calibrated, validated, and maintained.
  • Develop, review, and update laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), testing methods, and work instructions.
  • Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory technicians and quality personnel on testing procedures, safety practices, and quality standards.

4. Continuous Improvement & Problem Resolution

  • Investigate customer complaints, quality deviations, process failures, and non-conforming products.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using quality improvement tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, Pareto Analysis, SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies.
  • Implement and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Procurement, and Maintenance teams to improve extraction efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.

5. Supplier Quality Management

  • Evaluate and approve suppliers of raw materials, processing chemicals, packaging materials, and other production inputs.
  • Conduct supplier quality assessments and audits.
  • Monitor supplier performance and work closely with vendors to resolve quality-related issues.

6. Documentation, Reporting & Performance Monitoring

  • Prepare quality reports, trend analyses, inspection summaries, and performance dashboards for management.
  • Monitor key quality performance indicators and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate quality records in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Support new product validation, process qualification, and quality improvement projects.

7. Training & Leadership

  • Promote a strong culture of quality, food safety, and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Conduct quality awareness and GMP/HACCP training for production personnel and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide coaching, leadership, and technical guidance to QC/QA staff.

Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), ISO Lead Auditor, or Six Sigma certification are an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety systems, laboratory operations, and quality management standards.
  • Experience working with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and statistical quality control techniques.
