Location Description:

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the “Pearl of the Prairie” is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Quality Assurance technician ensures that all incoming ingredients, packaging materials, and outgoing finished products meet proper specifications and are documented. They communicate findings to necessary departments, benefiting Michael Foods, customers, and the public by ensuring safe, compliant quality products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Checks: Perform periodic checks on weights, dimensions, temperature, sensory aspects, and document reviews.
Inspection: Inspect incoming packaging materials and ingredients for proper labeling, allergen requirements, and manufacturing specifications.
Finished Product Checks: Check case weights, counts, packaging integrity, coding, and labeling.
SOP Maintenance: Assist in drafting, revising, and maintaining standard operating procedures.
Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between various departments (Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, Quality).
Safety and Quality Inspections: Participate in food safety/quality inspections, mock recalls, label audits, HACCP audits, and thermometer calibrations.
Production Line Verification: Verify proper set-up and sanitary conditions of production lines at start-up and shift change.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with label stated weights and associated regulations.
Communication and Troubleshooting: Communicate quality issues, assist in root cause analysis, perform environmental swabbing, and investigate customer concerns.
Quality Hold Management: Manage quality hold activities and non-conforming product inventories.
Adherence to Practices: Follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality.
Other Duties: Perform other assigned duties.
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Qualifications:
Experience:
At least 1 year as a Quality Assurance Technician or in a similar role.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills:
Proficient communication skills across various departments.
Knowledge of company and regulatory policies, procedures, and philosophies.
Proficient organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and ability to coach/train others on GMPs.
Basic proficiency with computer programs (MS Office) for data collection, analysis, and report writing.
Proficiency in critical thinking and problem-solving.
Ability to participate in cross-functional teams.
Skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Basic administrative skills.
Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.
Typing or shorthand skills.
Proficiency with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software.
