About CyOne
CyOne develops mission-focused software for defense, intelligence, and operational users. Our flagship product, WISRD — Wide-area ISR Discovery, is a web-based COTS software platform supporting ISR planning, situational awareness, intelligence workflows, targeting support, data discovery, and edge-enabled operations across tactical and enterprise environments.
WISRD is used to help operational users plan, manage, visualize, and act on complex mission data. We are looking for someone who can help ensure the product works as intended, is clearly documented, and is easy for users to understand and adopt.
About the Role
CyOne is seeking a QA & Technical Documentation Specialist to support WISRD product quality, release readiness, user documentation, and training material development.
This is a hybrid role combining software testing, product validation, technical writing, and user documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious, organized, and comfortable learning complex software workflows. This person should be able to test product features, identify issues, document expected behavior, and create clear user-facing guides.
This role is well suited for a software QA analyst with strong writing skills, a technical writer with hands-on software testing experience, or a former military/intelligence professional who can learn product testing and write clearly.
Responsibilities
- Support testing and validation of WISRD features, workflows, integrations, and release candidates.
- Create and maintain manual test plans, regression test cases, acceptance criteria, and test scripts.
- Document bugs and issues with clear reproduction steps, screenshots, expected behavior, actual behavior, severity, and supporting notes.
- Validate bug fixes and feature updates in coordination with product managers and software engineers.
- Create and maintain user guides, quick-start guides, administrator guides, release notes, FAQs, workflow documentation, and training materials.
- Translate complex ISR, intelligence, targeting, geospatial, and operational workflows into clear documentation for users.
- Support documentation for WISRD modules, product workflows, integrations, and deployment-specific configurations.
- Help standardize WISRD documentation templates, screenshots, terminology, and release documentation processes.
- Participate in product reviews, user feedback sessions, sprint reviews, and internal demonstrations as needed.
- Help improve overall product usability by identifying confusing workflows, documentation gaps, and user experience issues.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in software QA, technical writing, product support, software documentation, training documentation, or a related role.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Experience testing or documenting web-based software applications.
- Ability to create structured test cases and document software issues clearly.
- Comfortable working with engineers, product managers, and operational users.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple testing and documentation tasks.
- Ability to learn complex software workflows quickly.
- Experience with tools such as Jira, GitLab, GitHub, Confluence, Markdown, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar platforms.
- U.S. citizenship required due to the nature of customer missions and potential clearance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with defense, intelligence, ISR, geospatial, targeting, C2, or military operational workflows.
- Prior military, intelligence, or defense software experience.
- Experience documenting software for government or DoD users.
- Familiarity with agile software development.
- Experience with map-based applications, data visualization tools, or geospatial systems.
- Experience writing release notes, training guides, SOPs, user manuals, or administrator guides.
- Familiarity with test automation concepts.
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is someone who can think like a user, test like a QA analyst, and write like a technical communicator. You do not need to be a software developer, but you should be comfortable working with technical teams and learning complex mission software.
You should be able to answer questions like:
- Does this feature work as expected?
- Can I clearly explain how a user should complete this workflow?
- What steps reproduce this issue?
- What documentation would help a new user understand this capability?
- What needs to be fixed before this release is ready for a customer demonstration or deployment?
Example Work Products
- Regression test checklist for a WISRD release.
- Bug report with screenshots and reproduction steps.
- Quick-start guide for a WISRD workflow.
- User guide section for an ISR planning or targeting workflow.
- Release notes for a new software version.
- Admin guide section for user management or deployment configuration.
- Training handout for operational users.
- Documentation update based on user feedback from a demo or deployment.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is $90,000 – $125,000, based on experience, qualifications, writing ability, QA/testing background, defense software familiarity, and clearance status.
Candidates with active clearance, DoD software experience, ISR/C2/geospatial experience, or prior military intelligence experience may be considered above the posted range.
