The quality assurance specialist is responsible for upholding all Whole Foods Market, USDA standards including the HACCP program and for ensuring overall quality controls at the coffee roastery facility. The QA team supports critical sensory, product development as well as all applicable Whole Foods Market health and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Oversees the in-bound raw material quality inspection, maintenance of specifications and supplier programs.
Ensures full integration between the various internal departments involved in the development, procurement, production and distribution of new products.
Monitors finished product release and acceptance, identifying logistical, quality and other issues.
Supports all quality programs, serving as back-up SQF practitioner.
Performs daily product evaluations for inbound raw materials, production and development.
Maintains standards for material specifications in partnership with Sourcing team.
Support leadership for all quality programs and certifications including SQF, Organics, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, SMBC, Regenerative Organic and Kosher.
Organizes and manages product development projects.
Evaluates, validates, and finalizes key elements of product preparation.
Sets, tracks, and manages first production dates and requirements – ensuring appropriate communication with key stakeholders.
Facilitates project management for coffee bar programming.
Ensures compliance with approved supplier programs for procurement and sourcing.
Support the development of sensory for internal team members including sample roasting, SCA cupping protocol and product evaluations.
Skills
Advanced level use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Develops and recommends methods to continuously improve systems and processes.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, including listening, asking questions, and soliciting feedback.
Provides positive guidance, mentoring, and process or procedural support to team members.
Works effectively with internal teams, leadership, suppliers, vendors, and key external stakeholders.
Evaluates and resolves issues by analyzing data, collecting relevant information, and applying situational judgment.
Maintains open communication among all task/project stakeholders and understands interdependencies across functions.
Engages with leadership to develop and ensure effective support of functional objectives while modeling core values.
Effectively prioritizes tasks based on knowledge of team and leadership priorities to enhance organizational performance.
Qualifications
BA/BS degree in related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
18+ months of related experience preferred. 5 years of sensory experience a plus.
Prior leadership experience not required but may have informally led teams or performed in a team lead type of role.
Ability to work well with others, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with little supervision.
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.
Ability to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including Team Members, customers, suppliers, and regulators.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Must adhere to company dress code and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodation.
Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
May require the use of ladders.
The wage range for this position is $26.00 – $47.58 Hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers “Whole Benefits”.
