Project Overview

The Automation Test Engineer will design, develop, and execute testing protocols for CBP by creating robust automation frameworks and scripts. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive testing support across the CBP enterprise for both Windows and MAC Operating Systems, including imaging, security patches, updates, current and emerging technologies, application software packages, and end user device/workstation updates. The candidate will build automation solutions that enhance testing efficiency, create detailed reports, and collaborate closely with development teams. In this role, the candidate will strengthen CBP’s deployment processes by integrating automation suites and implementing standardized testing methodologies for consistent reporting and proactive problem monitoring. This position requires expertise in test automation from conception to implementation, ensuring all enterprise solutions meet CBP’s rigorous production standards.

Work Location

This is a hybrid position in Lorton, VA with occasional meetings at other locations in Northern Virginia.

Clearance
Client requires US citizenship and an existing Active CBP BI, DoD Top Secret or another DHS component clearance is preferred.

Responsibilities

Design and execute automated and operational testing for Windows and MAC Operating Systems
Perform compatibility, integration, and regression testing for OS image updates, application software packages, and workstation updates
Conduct security testing for monthly patches and updates (Adobe, Amazon Corretto, Security Agents, VPNs, and other software)
Execute ad-hoc testing to identify issues and defects not covered by standard testing activities
Create comprehensive test plans, test cases, analysis reports, and document test results
Track and report testing issues using appropriate tools
Maintain existing automated test scripts and develop new automation using tools like Unified Functional Testing and UiPath
Provide technical leadership and guidance to the testing team to ensure successful delivery
Transfer knowledge to Government staff on creating, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts
Develop how-to guides, lessons learned documentation, and training materials
Deliver quarterly process improvement recommendations, including evaluations of more efficient test automation tools
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve identified issues

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in IT or any related field
5* years* of experience
Experience with UiPath and UFT automation testing tools
Knowledge and experience with Windows and MAC operating systems, configuration, and Microsoft 365 environment
Security compliance knowledge and experience with implementations
Strong test engineering capabilities in designing, implementing, and conducting tests on operating systems and applications
Technical leadership skills with ability to provide guidance to team members
Attention to detail when creating and documenting test cases and results
Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong initiative: able to take high-level requirements, seek clarifications, and deliver results independently
