Position: QC and Optimization Supervisor, Ontario Sawmill Northeastern Ontario)
Domtar seeks a QC and Optimization Supervisor for its Ontario Sawmill in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The role reports to the Sawmill Superintendent and focuses on ensuring that the plant’s mechanical and process control optimization systems are operational and maintained to consistently produce high‑quality products that meet or exceed our standards. The position is full‑time, permanent, and offers a competitive salary (CAD $74,000–$92,000 per year), an annual bonus incentive plan, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities
- Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Optimize recovery and product value through technology utilization
- Maintain continuous improvement systems and inventory management, including FIFO and distribution of product lists to sales
- Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate performance improvements via quality assurance and quality control procedures and standards for log processing, lumber manufacturing – covering size, species, moisture content, and sawmill conversion factors
- Supervise compliance with work specifications, regulatory, and quality standards
- Facilitate technology transfer and support mills with troubleshooting to achieve optimum processes, performance, and higher product quality
- Inspect and audit production processes, equipment manufacturing processes, material, and product quality
- Collaborate with Sawmill QC Supervisor to attain overall product value and recovery
- Conduct studies to ensure overall reliability and capacity of the mills through product quality standards and equipment specifications
- Work with maintenance supervisors (mechanical and electrical) to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of maintenance activities
- Perform all administrative tasks, including production, maintenance, timesheet, health and safety, performance, training, personnel transfer, and environmental reports
- Coordinate monthly audits with CLA inspector, including annual visits by CLSAB and ALS inspectors as required
- Collaborate with Dry Kiln Operators to maximize product value
Qualifications
- Technical diploma in an allied field or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Advanced computer proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word, and Excel
- Formal PLC training with strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
- Valid NLGA grading license
- Good understanding of sawmill and planer mill equipment and related industry issues
- Demonstrated progression in leadership roles
- Uncompromising approach to safety, recognized by peers

- Excellent judgment and analytical skills, able to explain and influence others
