GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Quality Assurance Specialist position requires food experience and computer proficiencies. This position interacts closely with Production, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Sanitation; therefore good communication skills are essential. The Quality Assurance Specialist reports to the Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance. The position is responsible for the day-to-day quality assurance tasks, assist implementing quality control procedures and documentation, assist preparing the facility for customer and certification audits, and perform analysis and make recommendations.
PRINCIPAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain Material Complaint Program and Communicate with vendors in regards to defective or out-of-spec ingredients and packaging materials.
· Make recommendations and determinations for accept/reject criteria on incoming ingredients and packaging materials.
· Place defective ingredient and packaging materials on hold and interact with other departments to resolve and report defect issues.
· Verify the shelf-life of received ingredients.
· Maintain the Certificate of Analysis Program for Suppliers and Customers.
· Investigate and resolve quality issues received from customers as a result of product non-conformances.
· Assist with Food Safety, Regulatory, and Company Policy Compliance.
· Assist with compliance to all established food safety procedures.
· Other duties as assigned by Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor Science Degree Food Science preferred or Bachelor Science Degree in other technical discipline (Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology).
· 3 – 5 years professional experience in quality management or quality system discipline.
· Working knowledge of USDA and FDA regulatory requirements.
· Excellent skills in communicating verbally and in written form in English. Spanish is a plus.
· Proficient computer skills especially MS Word and Excel.
· BRC/SQF experience is a plus.
· Ability to effectively work with people is a must.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
