The Quality Control and Laboratory Coordinator plays a critical role within the QC Department. This position is responsible for conducting daily business within the lab as well as implementing and managing new projects and processes for our Quality Control program. The position will independently operate within the lab, conducting chemical and physical laboratory testing to ensure products conform to company and customer standards. The position will be responsible for providing supportive activities in the operation of the lab, as well as maintaining lab equipment, recordkeeping, data analysis and reporting, and assisting Quality Manager as needed. The Quality Control and Laboratory Coordinator will also support the Quality Manager with customer trials, research and development, and other developmental and process-related projects.
Essential Functions
Performing daily analysis of incoming QC samples
Performing in-process inspections, monitoring quality in conjunction with production team.
Inspecting and evaluating finished goods quality.
Analyzing and accurately reporting collected data.
Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation, not limited to viscometer, analytical balances, vacuum chamber, UV curing tunnel, etc.
Calibration of equipment and upkeep of calibration logs.
Assisting in handling defective or non-conforming products to ensure they are not released without further analysis and Quality Manager approval.
Maintain laboratory inventory and databases.
Learning and understanding processes throughout the facility to better assist with troubleshooting, detecting issues and root causes, and proposing potential solutions.
Following current SOPs and revising/creating SOPs as needed.
Preparing new product development samples to ship to other departments or customers.
Proper recordkeeping of all data collection and processes occurring in the lab, and maintenance of paper files as needed.
Maintaining and clean and organized lab.
Design and oversee experiments for research and development purposes for coatings, to ensure cost savings are met.
Inspect incoming and outgoing production materials for quality conformance.
Independently investigate and communicate raw material issues to suppliers, detailing any lost material and downtime.
Plans and conducts trials for new product development, qualification of new equipment, and evaluation of new raw materials.
Maintain and create SOPs, Work Instructions, and other facility documentation.
Investigate and manage customer complaints with our product – applies credit to the customers on an as needed basis.
Testing and reporting of new products
Tracking quality complaints, performing root cause analysis, and establishing operational changes to prevent problems from recurring.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports, analyzing quality and productivity.
Establish modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
Establish protocols and procedures for trials.
Determine timeline and protocol for production for customer trials.
Control assigned special projects to ensure cost saving measures are met.
Develop systems so that all projects are monitored and assure that the information is accurate and timely.
Collaborates with colleagues from other group locations to implement and standardize processes within the group regarding coating.
Comply with all activities related to product safety, legality, regulatory compliance, and quality.
Prepare graphs or charts of data or enter data into computer for analysis.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Degree in a Technical or Applied Science Field (2-year required, 4-year preferred)
3+ years of relevant experience would be considered in lieu of a degree.
Strong analytical and mathematics skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good communication skills.
Strong Microsoft Office skills; specifically, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
SAP Experience is preferred.
