Job Title: Lab Technician – Junior (Night Shift)
Location: Richmond, VA (Onsite)
Duration: 6+ Months (W2 Contract)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Position Overview:
This is an entry-level, non-exempt opportunity offering hands-on experience in a fast-paced forensic toxicology laboratory. Ideal for recent graduates in Biology, Chemistry, or related sciences looking to start a lab-based career.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and extract samples for GC/MS and LC/MS analysis.
Conduct chemical and physical lab tests on various materials, liquids, and gases.
Perform qualitative analyses to support testing, research, or process control.
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents, controls, and calibrators per SOPs and regulatory standards.
Document test results and maintain accurate records.
Perform routine preventative maintenance and quality control procedures.
Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols, security guidelines, and company policies.
Maintain inventory and replenish lab supplies as needed.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related science (required).
Entry-level candidates are welcome; full training will be provided.
Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Must pass standardized color vision screening.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work in a fast-paced lab environment.
Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or other shifts as business needs arise.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a clinical or forensic laboratory (1+ year preferred for technologist-level consideration).
Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
Understanding of federal guidelines (49 CFR Part 40) and CAP-FUDT standards.
Work Environment & Additional Notes:
Climate-controlled lab with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
Must wear appropriate PPE at all times.
May require domestic travel for legal testimony or training.
Initial 4-week training may occur on a different shift under the supervision of the team lead.
