Test Engineer:
Location: 5 days onsite at Battle Creek VA Medical Center – Battle Creek
Employment Type: W2 hourly or 1099
Experience: 1+
What You’ll Do:
Information technology tasks.
Prepare computers for users, this includes, unbox, inventory update/tag, image, verify all software versions are current, install any required software, move in Active Directory AD, issue resolution (hardware and software), deploy to user workstations, deploy computer peripherals (large monitor, keyboard, mouse, and hand scanner), configure / deploy printers / multi-factor devices, recover excesses, hardware excess/decommission processing, and securing hardware to workstation units.
Computer maintenance tasks
Primary, Tier 1 and Tier 2 IT tasks, this includes ServiceNow ticket issue resolution/status update, monitoring deployed computers, immediate hardware issue resolution (facility wide support), Wi-Fi computer connectivity for users, answering user questions, and vulnerability remediation when required.
Professional work environment
team based structure, matrixed tasking support working with other technical resources. Ongoing customer facing interaction, online (Teams and email) and direct customer support in the facility. Physical environment is large, requiring resources to move around the facility, support8mg technical tasks that include moving computing hardware, furniture, and getting under desks to access power/network ports.
Network tasks
General LAN and WAN support for end users, including updating Cisco and other network hardware configurations for user access and equipment access. Configuring network hardware MAC addresses for specifying user authorized access for enterprise access. Troubleshooting network hardware issues (Cisco). Working with Network team resources to configure devices and troubleshoot issues when encountered.
What You Bring:
Tier 1 Requirements:
1+ year of IT support or help desk experience
Strong communication skills and customer-first mindset
Basic troubleshooting knowledge (Windows OS, Microsoft Office, etc.)
High school diploma or GED required
CompTIA A+ or HDI certification preferred
Preferred Experience:
Prior VA or federal healthcare IT experience
Familiarity with VA systems like VistA, CPRS, Citrix, or ServiceNow
Understanding of HIPAA and federal IT compliance standards
