POSITION SPECIFICS

Reports To: Vice President of Operations
FLSA Status: Exempt
ROLE

SUMMARY:
This position provides a site wide leadership and direction for Quality and Food Safety, acting as site representative for these functions, as well as acting Safety Quality Food Practitioner (SQF) providing the site with the overall regulatory compliance strategies that ensures the Quality vision, Operational practices and requirements such as food hygiene, HACCP, Sanitation, GMPs, Product/Processing reviews and internal audits are being executed through a continuous improvement process. Responsible managing a staff that monitors and/or verifies food safety and quality of products and processes per company guidelines. The Director interfaces, advises and supports plant operations in the execution of required quality and food safety practices as required through SQF and other Quality Management Programs. Supports and represents the company with government agencies, vendors, customers. Is the technical liaison for technical projects from process/ingredient improvements through new product developments and execution, Also, performs other tasks as necessary to safeguard the brand and interests of Raybern Foods

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Responsible for all Quality functions in Raybern Facilities in MS, as well as any other facilities associated with Raybern including Co-Manufactures.
Develop, implement and maintain appropriate plant quality plans, consistent with business, consumer and QA needs. Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of all quality systems, programs and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for establishing, maintaining quality, safety, consumer feedback metrics and promoting excellent communications throughout departments and management to drive continuous improvement.
Responsible for establishing, maintaining and promoting good communications with all departments, levels of management, FDA, USDA and other regulatory agencies.
Accountable to manage and improve processes, systems and programs that drives quality and safety; ensures adherence to required food safety laws, regulations, corporate policies and practices.
Develops and champions objectives of all QA, Food Safety and Regulatory functions in accordance with Raybern’s management objectives; provides the technical guidance and collaborates with Operations, QA and R&D on regulatory and quality standards and objectives.
Ensures that all products and supporting documentation are in full compliance with regulatory, Quality and third party standards.
Manages and maintains HACCP, SQF, SSOP, SOP, GMP programs according to relevant up to date scientific research and regulatory information and in accordance to these regulatory and third party standards.
Manages vendor compliance programs to ensure that products, ingredients, packaging and vendors are qualified, support Raybern’s needs and meet all quality and regulatory standards.
Direct and maintain documentation for the facility Food Safety, HACCP, USDA/labeling, Recall, Pest Control, Quality, Food Security and Environmental Waste programs.
Develop and recommend improvement of facilities, equipment, processes, safety, and quality and efficiency programs.
Conducts appropriate training and compliance audits in support of the food safety and quality standards.
Directly manages the Quality Department and grows employees within the department.
Primary responsibility to coordinate 3rd party audits (SQF, Silliker, AIB etc.).
This position reports to the VP of Research & Development.

This position does have any direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or related fields
10+ years Quality management experience of which 5+ years leadership/management experience in a food manufacturing, technical, and quality function
Working experience working within an FDA, USDA, SQF regulated facility; excellent knowledge of HACCP, CFR’s , USDA and other regulations
Strong manufacturing background and technical experience with a proven track record of continuous improvement and change management
Strong technical expertise in meat, bakery, entrée’s, sandwich, appetizer products, ingredients and processing including formulations, quality, sanitation, laboratory and audit knowledge
Outstanding strategic, communication and people development skills are required
Excellent planning, methodologies, analyses skillset that drives root cause analyses and collaborative solutions and execution

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
None

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of microbiology, food formulations to the above products
Professional certifications in quality such as ASQ, SQF, HACCP
Excellent computer skills such as Excel, Pivot tables, PowerPoint
Financial and budget knowledge and reporting including CapEx
Managing and growing direct reports
