Position Overview
The Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and compliance of parts and materials sourced from suppliers. This role works closely with internal engineering, procurement, and supplier teams to maintain high-quality standards, support operational objectives, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
The position requires a hands-on approach to inspections, supplier collaboration, process improvement, and periodic travel to supplier facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Inspection
- Perform detailed inspections and quality analyses of incoming purchased components and materials.
- Evaluate parts for design conformance, functionality, and tolerance compliance.
- Investigate and address issues related to non-conforming materials and components.
Supplier Management & Collaboration
- Work closely with suppliers, engineering teams, and procurement to resolve quality-related concerns.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support continuous quality improvements.
- Conduct on-site supplier audits and visits to verify adherence to specifications and quality expectations (approximately 20% travel required).
Process Development & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement incoming inspection and evaluation processes to determine inspection frequency and quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to supplier quality, manufacturing processes, and operational efficiency.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and organized records of internal and external quality documentation.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturing quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Equipment & Measurement Systems
- Oversee calibration, maintenance, and operation of measurement and inspection equipment.
- Coordinate repairs or replacements of quality inspection tools and equipment as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Previous experience with crushing equipment and related manufacturing processes preferred.
- Experience in supplier quality management and supplier relationship development.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment, machining processes, and quality systems.
- Proficiency using precision measurement and inspection instruments for machined parts.
- Familiarity with quality standards, compliance requirements, and inspection methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using SolidWorks and proficiency with Windows-based and Google-based software applications.
